The Métis Harvesting Collective had quite the weekend with our fall fish camp and a duck hunt to inform future camps.

We set 3 nets and caught and processed hundreds of pounds of fish that participants took home to feed their families, and elders. In addition to fishing we had great tunes, fish scale art(marsii @erinkonsmo ), excellent food, camp fires, and lots of laughs. From our duck hunt we learned we would be much more successful if we were better shots lol...

These camps are about so much more than harvesting. They are about bringing Red River Métis and their families together to build community without the intrusion of politics that may have otherwise push people away 😊

Kitchii-marsii to all the people that showed up, participated, and made the camp come to life! Extra big shout-out to Jenny, Donald, and Joyce Halldorson for supporting this camp in so many ways. I can't thank y'all enough 🧡 Thanks to my parents for all the support. Not all parents would let their son grind 8lbs of Drum and Suckers in their kitchen, or leave smelly fish nets in their garage and still drive him to the airport at 6 am the next morning 😊 Finally thank you to our funders @indigyouthroots

6 weeks in Vietnam and Thailand are over and we are back in Canada!

Here are some highlights from Vietnam
1-3 Hà Giang Loop on motorcycle with some truely amazing folks, including an epic father daughter duo from Winnipeg 😎 what are the odds!
4 Vietnamese cooking class Hội An
5 Lady Buddha
6 Ba Na Hills - went from the cool bridge stayed for the massive mountain top amusement park/replica of an old French town. Sun World is the most extra.
7 2-night stay in the Crazy House, Da Lat
8 Some type of noodle soup, the best I had all trip, from a boat in a floating market on Mekong River Delta!
9 A Close encounter with the train in Hanoi

Filled with joy after a great weekend with amazing people! 🥰 Marsii to everyone who came out to our first Winter Fish Camp. I love seeing our community come together around learning and practicing our Métis traditions, and of course good food and music too!

Amazing couple days in the Turtle Mountains with Chris Leforte and the Métis Harvesting Collective. Chris taught us how to set rabbit snares and martin boxes. He also got us out hunting elk and whitetails.

The Métis Harvesting Collective is organizing more FREE Learn to Trap Camps with Chris in the coming weeks! If you are a Red River Métis Youth (20-29) Interested in attending send me a message. ☺️

We may be busy but somehow we always find time for adventure, cooking good food, and, apparently, lots of selfies... 😅 😘 I am looking forward to celebrating our first 5 years of love when we are reunited next month 🥳

We made it happen! I couldn't have asked for a better weekend with better people ❤️ On the land with my Michif kin 💯🙌. Marsii to all that made this weekend possible. I can't wait to do it again!

Special marsii to @cdnroots for the Youth Empowerment Grant which not only created a space for young Métis, but also empowered us with the traditional skills, knowledge, and equipment to continue to practice our traditions. Something we will surely continue to share with generations to come 🙏🙏

On April 4th, my sister and I attended the MMF treaty consultation in Ottawa. It was a great event, and I am very happy to have had the opportunity to go. It was extra special to be there with my sister! I found the event to be informative and a great place to meet and connect with other Red River Métis. I was able to ask lots of questions and get clarity on a few things. Half of the day was dedicated to explaining all the steps the MMF has taken, over many decades, to get to this point. The other half was dedicated to explaining the treaty and our next steps. There were about 50 citizens attending in-person which made for a different atmosphere than a typically AGA feel. Very nice to see @willgoodon again and some people from Facebook I have never met in-person before!
As I collect my thoughts over the next couple days, I will share my experience and thoughts of the treaty and the process!!

I am already looking forward to being back on the water especially with this bunch! For now I will wax my skis and wait for snow 🌨️🎿

After a couple years of transitioning from being a high performance athlete to university student/canoe leader, I am finally getting back into shape. Being back in shape feels good. Life is once again much brighter, school feels easier, and motivation is rising just in time for finals... 😎

The past 10 days have been busy! I did my last @waterwayscanada program—paddle night with @mmfbisonlocal, devoured 7 burgers with @francoalbarran and Amanda , hopped on a ✈️ to get to school in Montreal, reunited with my partner in crime @annesoparent ❤️, voted in my new electoral district #metisvote @manitobametisfederation, attend my first in person class @concordiauniversity (selfie worthy moment), and picked up my new folding bike. I'll be back to Manitoba 🌾 in the spring, but for now I am looking forward to new challenges and experience in this big city, and living life with @annesoparent 😘 by @jameslavallee

I am super excited to be a @_masrc ambassador this year! Creating and supporting recreation opportunities for my Michif community and all my Indigenous relations is what I live for! ❤️
@_masrc is the Province-Territorial Aboriginal Sport Body of Manitoba. They work to support sports and recreation for Indigenous peoples in Manitoba!
In the future, I hope @waterwayscanada and @_masrc can work collaboratively to empower Indigenous peoples though building sustainable outdoor rec programs. ✌️ by @jameslavallee
