Dreams give us a reason to walk through them.β€οΈπŸ™πŸ½ As a proud Vaal University of Technology (VUT) Alumnus, having graduated with a National Diploma in Sports Management in 2002, I am honoured to be joining VUT FM 96.9 for a special interview today. VUT believed in my potential and awarded me a sports bursary covering my tuition and accommodation. That opportunity did more than support my education; it helped me rediscover my direction, pursue my dreams and build a foundation for the journey ahead. From professional football to sports broadcasting, Neuro-Life Coaching, community development and now authorship, I remain grateful for the role education has played in shaping my life. We will also reflect on my book, Passing It Forward – Where Lessons Become Legacy, and how our experiences can inspire others to keep believing in their dreams. Education gave me a foundation. VUT gave me an opportunity. Some stories are written because you have something to say. Others are written because life has given you something to pass on. Passing It Forward is my story. Not a story of a perfect journey, but of a life that has taught me through the good days, the difficult ones, the disappointments, the people I have lost, the people who stood beside me, the mistakes, the opportunities and the moments that asked me to keep going when giving up would have been easier. Life has not always been easy. But looking back, I understand that even some of the hardest seasons were teaching me something. The hand resting on these pages belongs to my wife, Maria. Mine is the hand holding hers. I wanted this photograph to be simple because, in many ways, it represents the journey behind this book. We do not walk through life alone. There are people who carry parts of our story with us. I have been fortunate to meet coaches, teammates, family, friends and many people along the way who left something in me. Some taught me through their words. Others through their actions. Some through encouragement, and others through difficult experiences. This book is my way of saying: the lessons we receive should not end with us. If one chapter helps somebody keep going, believe again, learn from a mistake, become a better parent, leader, teammate or human being, then sharing my story will have been worth it. β€œYour future is bigger than what you see today.” On 18 August 2026, I had the privilege of sharing this message with young people at the 6th Annual Careers in Conservation Expo. Standing before hundreds of young people reminded me of the little boy I once was, growing up in the dusty streets of Thulamahashe,Mpumalanga, not knowing where life would take me. Sometimes, when you are young, all you can see is where you are. Your circumstances. Your limitations. The doors that haven't opened yet. But your beginning does not have to determine your destination. My message was simple: Keep learning. Keep preparing. Keep believing. Take the opportunities that come your way. Your journey may not follow the path you imagined, but that does not mean it cannot become something meaningful. My sincere appreciation to the Global Conservation Corps, GKEPF and The Timbavati Foundation for creating spaces such as this, where young people are exposed to opportunities, careers and possibilities they may not have known existed. When we expose a young person to possibility, we may be doing far more than introducing them to a career. We may be helping them see a future they had never imagined for themselves. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a journey that is opening doors, expanding possibilities and inspiring the next generation to dream beyond what they see today.
