@jamesmithimage61 and I started working together over 20 years ago and along the way we became great friends and have had many an adventure together in multiple capitals mind you. We often bonded through our common neurosis. 😂

What I love most about James’s work is that he captured an entire chapter of trans photography in New York throughout the 2000s and 2010s—he is the keeper of an era that’s very specific and detailed and charged with high voltage glam images.

And these images are very much my mood of the time: Roberto Cavalli, exagrerated animal prints, gloss and candy coloured excess. Subtilité was never the point. More was more, and then we alwats added a little more.

Somehow James also managed to make me look like a hybrid of Laura Leon and Jocelyn Wildensteiin in these shots which I will be forever grateful for.

James just needs a look and he can construct a whole set just with a pair of bras and panties, I tell you. A great friend and talent.

I hope your 2000s were equally over the top!
