Farewell to filmmaker John Irvin, a kind friend, generous mentor and valued collaborator to me.

Notice can be seen in today's Guardian and The Irish Times. The picture here is a still of John departing from the garden of St. Paul’s, Covent Garden, “the Actors’ Church.”

As you may have seen, “86” is in the news. But there’s something missing from the hubbub, that phrase originated from code used at the speakeasy-turned-writers bar Chumley’s in New York’s West Village. Here to explain is my favorite former Chumley’s waitress Gina Ruiz. Or rather, she’s not here, she’s phoning this in today from the Cannes Film Festival because Gina is now a much-in-demand costume designer for feature films.
