Labor hasn’t scrapped its new 30% minimum tax on discretionary trusts.

It’s offering a workaround: lock in fixed distributions to nominated beneficiaries and give up the flexibility you had the trust for in the first place.

Create the problem. Add more complexity. Then announce the “solution” like they’ve done small business a favour. by @jamestsimopoulos

Rates are up again.

That part we can’t control.

What we CAN control is what you do next.

Better rate? Refinance? Restructure? Different lender? Different strategy?

Don’t just assume you’re stuck with whatever your bank gives you.

If today’s decision has you worried about your mortgage or borrowing power, message me.

Let’s look at the numbers. by @jamestsimopoulos

If rates go up today, congratulations mortgage holders… you’ve been selected to save the economy again.

I get it. The RBA has a job to do. Inflation is too high and interest rates are basically the only button they’ve got.

But households aren’t the only ones creating demand in the economy. by @jamestsimopoulos

The government says it supports small business. But when owners are buried in tax, red tape and rising costs, how much pressure can they take before something gives?

Breaking the rules isn’t okay. But maybe we should ask why so many small businesses feel like they’re just trying to survive. by @jamestsimopoulos

Super can be a great investment.

But locking your money away for decades requires one thing…

Trust that the rules won’t keep changing.

Wasn’t gonna post today but how can you not talk about it…

What would inflation look like if government spending actually came down?

And what happens when the recent fuel price increases wash through?

I don’t know.

That’s why you run the scenario. by @jamestsimopoulos

The RBA hasn’t moved… but the banks already are.

Fixed rates are being pushed higher across a heap of lenders.

Does it guarantee another rate rise? No.

But it does tell you what the market is starting to price in. by @jamestsimopoulos

Social media has made being broke look normal.

Expensive car. New clothes. Holidays on credit. Afterpay everything.

Looking rich and being wealthy are two very different things.

Normal doesn’t mean smart. by @jamestsimopoulos

Apparently we’re spending too much.

Meanwhile Westpac says take petrol out and card spending actually FELL 0.3% in August.

Maybe we’re not spending more…

Maybe shit just costs more. by @jamestsimopoulos

House prices coming down sounds like good news for first-home buyers…

Until rates go up and the bank lends you less.

A cheaper house doesn’t help much if your borrowing power is falling even faster.

And for more and more buyers, Mum and Dad are becoming the difference between getting in and missing out.

Prices matter. But borrowing power matters more. by @jamestsimopoulos
