It's Library Card Sign-Up Month here in Alaska! @rasmusonfoundation , where I work as a communications associate, loves libraries, so we're hyping the month-long event on our socials.

Libraries are a huge part of my early growth as a writer. My first "publication" came at the age of 6 or 7, when the Hartford, IL Library featured my poem "Clouds" in its newsletter. Gwen, the librarian there, used to kid me about checking a book out, reading it, and checking it back in, all in the same day.

Later, when I lived in Bunker Hill, I wanted so badly to volunteer at the local library. Librarian Carol Weindel told me, "Why don't we see if you're still interested when you get to high school?" My freshmen year, I began volunteering, and I didn't stop until my college years. I made several surprising friends through that experience, including a friendship with someone who became a lifelong pen pal (until his death in 2002) and inspired my first international trip.

Nothing like the last minute! Thought I had registered for the Talkeetna Trail Race, then showed up to find out I’d forgotten! Fortunately, same-day registration got me to the starting line for the 25k. Great course, great day for a run. Took no photos; thanks to @sherrid2020 for taking pics. by @jameybee

A few weeks ago, I said goodbye to my cat, Pill. I had her for about ten years, taking her from a scared kitty who lived under my bed to the queen of her domain. She passed from undiagnosed bladder cancer.

Initially, I thought I’d wait some time before thinking about getting a new cat. But the house was so quiet. So I went to animal control, just to see what was available. And that’s how I ended up with a 4-month-old orange cat and a 5-year-old lady.
Introducing Toast (the orange boy) and Judy Blume! Don’t let the first pic fool you; they don’t totally get along yet, but we’re working on it. And the house is much happier with them in it. by @jameybee

The book club I'm part of at work entered a diorama in the @anchoragelibrary 's "Peep Show" diorama contest. We did a Carrie-at-the-prom themed diorama on a lazy Susan--one side, Carrie's coronation, the other side, Carrie's destruction. AND WE WON. I have never been prouder.

This month on the stack: Why having a day job, when all you really wanna do is write fiction, might not actually be the worst thing. (Hint: It's not *just* about a steady paycheck and health insurance.) by @jameybee
