I walked into the Spellers Freedom conference yesterday a different mama. We started spelling to communicate with Phoenix 3 years ago, in fits and starts. Mostly fits. 🤣

We’ve taken a long hiatus because my bandwidth was so low due to incredible family loss. I’ve felt defeated and maybe this wouldn’t work for Phoenix. But I have new breath in my lungs from sweet Walker and his mom, Amber. His words were a balm to my spirit. 🥹

Phoenix and Walker will get to spend time together tomorrow and I cannot wait for these two besties to hang out!

Thank you @cameronstymeist for this video. 😍

I had to put this somewhere permanent because this is HUGE for Phoenix! At 12.5 years old he asked his very first question!!!
“What’s this?” As he grabbed my string cheese in curiosity.

I don’t know if this has anything to do with our recent trip to Serbia at Swiss Medica for Phoenix’s first stem cell treatment, but I’m feeling quite hopeful these cells and exosomes are doing some work! ❤️

Regardless, I’m beyond excited and likely still in a little shock! 😜

I don’t know who needs to hear this but hopefully it blesses someone. 💕

This came from a whirlwind of activities with Phoenix yesterday and I got home and immediately asked “what’s next?” “What else do I need to accomplish?” “What else can I DO?!?” I couldn’t even give myself credit for the fun day I planned for him because frankly, there’s more to do!!!! 😵‍💫

I believe we have a God given need for His help. We can’t possibly DO enough to ever feel like we ARE enough. That’s the rub! So instead of constantly spinning our wheels trying to figure out how to cram MORE into our days, I wonder how it would feel to shift our focus to how much we’re connecting, loving, and nurturing our relationships with our kids.

They don’t care how much you accomplished today, even if it was for them….they care how much you show up for them. ❤️

Two week update on Phoenix’s stem cell therapy! ❤️
So far we’ve seen less constipation, more words (specifically parroting mom and dad) and far more interest and focus in almost all activities.

While it can take weeks and months to see the full impact of stem cells, we’re already feeling excited and hopeful!

We’re continuing exosomes and macrophage treatment at home and hoping those continue to support his body where it needs it most!

International travel with an autistic child can feel intimidating, especially when you don’t know how they’ll handle the flights, airports, unfamiliar places, new foods and completely different routines. To say we were overwhelmed by the thought of taking Phoenix across the world for stem cell therapy is an understatement.

But this trip taught us something I never want to forget:

Sometimes we have to give our kids the opportunity to show us what they can do. Phoenix showed us just how capable, curious and brave he really is. 🐦‍🔥

We prepared. We accommodated. We slowed down when Phoenix needed us to.

And then we watched him experience a whole new part of the world. While this trip was primarily for stem cells, it was also about saying yes to an adventure of a lifetime.

I’m so glad we said yes. ✈️🌍

Day 9- our final full day in Serbia! 🇷🇸
It was a fairly busy day with final therapy sessions, exit meeting with Phoenix’s doctor, packing for our next stop, and saying our goodbyes. 😭

Thank you to the @swiss_medica_clinic team for EVERYTHING! We couldn’t have wished for a better experience for Phoenix and our family.

Until next time, Serbia! Dovidenja! ❤️

Day 8 and Phoenix’s last treatment: macrophages via IV and nebulizer. It was his 3rd IV and while he still didn’t love the moment they put in the catheter, he breathed right through it!

He had another physio appointment (pretty sure he has a little crush on the physical therapist) and then another great speech therapy session. For a kiddo who didn’t sleep very well the night before, he sure worked hard!

Can’t believe we have only one more day in Serbia! The time has flown by and we are already sad to leave. 🥹

Day 7 in Serbia 🇷🇸
Today was another rest day because of the weekend so we ventured to Zemun, or “old” Belgrade. We strolled along the Danube, ate delicious food, and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

One thing I loved so much is how people sit and enjoy each other’s company. They face the water and just chat for hours. I could get used to that!

I could also get used to the pljeskavica. 😋

Tomorrow is Phoenix’s final treatment which includes an IV and nebulizer. Please keep praying for him!

Day 6 in Serbia was a rest day from stem cells and therapies so we decided to go on a little adventure. First stop was the Belgrade Zoo followed by a visit to our new favorite bookstore. We weren’t sure if Phoenix just tried the frozen yogurt the other day because it was warm outside so we tried again….and he loved it! 😍

Such a great day exploring more of Serbia!

Round 2 of stem cells for Phoenix yesterday. It went so smoothly and he didn’t struggle at all this time with the catheter placement and waiting for the 1 hour infusion. ❤️

I know I’ve made this abundantly clear but I’m going to say it again: we didn’t pursue stem cell therapy to change who Phoenix is as a person. He is pure sunshine and our absolute FAVORITE person in the world. But we DO want to change how he feels. To have a life without chronic gut dysbiosis, systemic inflammation. We aren’t promised results but will always remain hopeful. 🙏🏼💕

Day 4 in Serbia 🇷🇸 at @swiss_medica_clinic

Another full and wonderful day, including a physical therapy assessment that I think Phoenix confused with a massage. 😅

And now we rest up for a big day tomorrow: ROUND 2️⃣ of stem cells! ❤️
