A year ago, I got the opportunity to explore garbage as a material and create 5,795 Fathoms. This year, with amazing collaborators, I got to work on and create Palimpsest. For the past month and a half, I have been working on a design for a performance that, even a week from showing, doesn’t really exist yet. This has been a freeing and daunting task that I am thankful to have not had to face alone and although I am terrified, I invite you to come see what kind of performance four artists can throw together in a week. @meirene_w @zaarah_lopez @re.rosie ~~ 5,975 Fathoms is an exploration of water, material, and design. This Directed Study works as an experiment where during cue to cue rather than introducing the design to the performance, we are introducing the performance to the design. Led by two Production and Design students, Irene Weng and Jamie Sweeney, this piece invites the audience fathoms deep into the ocean to see what and who they can find there.

This semester I had the pleasure to watch my first lighting design come alive on stage. It felt like magic, watching these concepts that I had been imaging in my head assist with telling the story that was unfolding. Despite the struggles that I had at times and the work I can see that still needed to be done, I am proud of what I made and I’m excited to make more. •
