The question I get the most these days is, “How’s empty nesting going?”

It’s going. 💙

There are a lot of mixed feelings. It’s strange not having sporting events to go to every week—although we’ve dropped in on a few friends’ kids’ events, and that’s been fun.

It’s strange not having someone to make sure is up, fed, and off to school. And we’re still figuring out how to prepare meals for just two!

But room by room, our house is getting decluttered. It’s staying cleaner longer. We’re more consistent with when we go to bed and when we get up. We’re finding a little rhythm in this new season.

There’s a lot I miss about the everyday life we had with the kids at home, but there are things I’m learning to enjoy about this chapter, too.

So, how’s empty nesting going?

I’m adjusting. 💙

Today is National Women’s Health & Fitness Day—and I want to celebrate what our good bodies can do. 💙💪🏼

Our bodies are good. They are not projects that need to be fixed. We do not have to earn our food or exercise to “work it off.” Food nourishes our bodies, and movement helps us care for them. Exercise is not punishment—it is an opportunity to build strength, support our health, and appreciate the bodies we have been given.

So today, we celebrate our ability to be active in whatever way is right for us. We celebrate caring for our bodies through our exercise and nutritional healthy habits. We celebrate doing hard things, growing stronger, and continuing to take our next best steps.

And we celebrate the example we are setting for the generation of girls coming up behind us—showing them that health is not about chasing perfection or trying to make their bodies good. Their bodies are already good and can do hard things.

May they see us move with joy, nourish ourselves without guilt, care for our bodies with gratitude, and let our healthy habits fly.®

When I talk about finding exercise that is fun + enjoyable for you—this is exactly what I mean! 💙

This picture pretty much sums up my run this morning. It was great. The weather felt great. My body felt great. I felt great! And it got me excited about training again.

Now, in full transparency, not every workout is going to feel this way. Even when you find movement you truly enjoy, there will still be days when it feels hard, your motivation is low, or you simply are not having much fun.

This is why it’s important to find exercise healthy habits you enjoy. Because when you do, it’s going to give you a reason to keep coming back and stay consistent and hang on through the harder days when you may not feel like it.

And then you have a day like this—when the joy comes rushing back and reminds you why you do it. 🏃‍♀️

Exercise does not have to feel like punishment. There is a type of movement out there that can be fun, doable, and effective for you—and I would love to help you find it as part of your healthy habit journey.

Let your healthy habits fly.®

For many years I always held the perspective that baptism was more of a one time thing. It was done to publicly acknowledge that you have repented and decided to follow Jesus as John the Baptist talked about in Matthew 3:11. Then if you “fell away” from your faith. You might do it again to show that you are recommitting to leaving your old ways behind and going to do your best to “go and sin no more”(John 8:11) and to do your best to become more like Jesus. And if I’m being honest, I’ve always been a little confused as to the concept of baptism as babies if “repenting and washing away” was its designed purpose, but I also never got hung up on it because it wasn’t a core belief issue.

But after my time at the Chosen Conference, these last couple of days, I feel like it is more than just this one time, maybe two time, thing. I believe that is actually another form of worship and an act of obedience God may ask us to make from time to time. After all, Jesus was baptized, and he didn’t have anything to repent and turn away from. His baptism was an act of obedience and worship:

“But Jesus said, “ it should be done, for you must carry out all that God requires.” so John agreed to baptize him.” —Matthew 3:15

And this act of obedience and worship brought great joy to God. (Matthew 3:17)

The theme this year at Chosen was Altar. The altar is where we lay things down and worship God. The messages were about different ways and times we may need to leave things at the altar. Maybe it’s a hurt, or a situation, but the reality is there are many things that we need to leave at the altar, and sometimes it’s not even always “bad” things we need to leave. Sometimes we are called to leave “good” things at the altar so we can walk into something even better.

So when I got the nudge about baptism on Thursday, I first thought, “That’s not for me. I don’t need to do that. I already did that when I was nine, and I’ve been recommitted for years.” In other words, I’ve been there done that. Didn’t get the T-shirt then because we just wore baptismal robes back then.

If you have recently said, “I want to get my healthy back,” or “I need to start exercising again,” consider this your personal invitation. 💙

My 8-Week Signature Healthy Habits Course is not an extreme plan or another all-or-nothing reset. It is an opportunity to learn how your exercise and nutritional healthy habits can realistically fit into the season of life you are in right now.

Whether your goal is to maintain or lose weight, restart your exercise habits, or better understand why your current efforts are not working, we will start where you are and take your next best step together.

You will also learn how to modify and adjust your habits as your life changes—because sustainable healthy habits should support you through different seasons, not only work when everything goes perfectly.

Enrollment is open through September 21, and our eight weeks begin September 21. The Signature Course is $350 (one time payment with continued access to material), and this is your final opportunity to join in 2026.

Come let your healthy habits fly with me.®

Comment “I’M IN!” or “I’M READY” and I’ll send you a link or visit theelittlebird.com/coaching to learn more and sign up.

Riding shotgun, again. I’m moving on up to the front seat.
It’s a simple change in position, but somehow it feels like a pretty big one for me. ❤️

Years ago, I chose to move to the back seat when we traveled as a family because, to me, it just made sense. Russ drives, I’m the smallest, and the kids could use the extra legroom. It became one of those little family routines I never really thought much about.

I definitely never thought there would come a day when not needing to climb into the back seat would make me emotional.

But last week, as we visited the Academy for Parents’ Weekend and Beckham rode shotgun, I felt it. And I’ve felt it even more the last couple of days of this week as Sage has taken the front seat while we moved her in for year two.

I’ll still head to the back when we’re all together as a family, but in this new season, those moments won’t happen nearly as often as they have up to this point.

It’s funny how something as small as where you sit in the car can remind you just how much life is changing.

So, I guess I’m riding shotgun again. And while I’m grateful for the seat beside Russ, I’m feeling a little sentimental about the years I spent in the back. ❤️

We got Sage all moved in for Year 2. I really enjoyed having her home this summer, but I’m excited to see what this year brings her! I haven’t even made it home and can’t wait to visit her. 💙🐻💛
