It's becoming a bit of a tradition for me now - big life moments coinciding with the @f1 Australian Grand Prix. What a great way to finish up my time with @timetidewatches and start my next chapter as Editor of @hodinkee AU/NZ. The fast cars are just the cherry on top 🏎🏁

Big thanks to @tudorwatch @visacashapprb @iwcwatches_aus_nz @mercedesamgf1 @belvederevodka @blackcommunications for a fantastic race weekend. Still in mourning for Oscar though. by @jamieweissau

Months later and I still haven't posted everything, but it's fair to say that the apex of my 2024 (literally) was driving the legendary Stelvio Pass. Starting off our day at the glittering lakes of Como, ascending to the sunny snowcapped Alps and then darting down through the Tyrolean valleys... As a revhead, it doesn't get much better. Thanks to @bmwau for the awesome M4 Competition and @mattwweiss for being the best co-pilot I could ever ask for 🇮🇹🚗🏔 taken in Passo Stelvio - Stilfserjoch by @jamieweissau

WHAT’S ON THE WRIST? @jamieweissau has been wearing the @hublot Big Bang MECA-10 Frosted Carbon, which as the name implies, boasts an in-house, manually-wound, 10-day power reserve movement. This latest, smaller MECA-10 calibre already looks unconventional thanks to its Meccano-like structure, but also features an unusual “crémaillère” rack system for its power reserve indicator. Lightweight thanks to its carbon case and surprisingly thin, it's a highlight in the Big Bang range 💥 by @jamieweissau

The RM 65-01 is arguably the most complicated timepiece @richardmille has ever created, combining a split-seconds chronograph with unique features such as a rapid winding system, a gearbox-like function selector and a variable-geometry automatic rotor - all housed within a case made from one of the most innovative composites known to man. It really makes Richard Mille’s “a racing machine on the wrist” tagline feel apt. This 'Sand' model, an off-catalogue limited edition, ups the special factor higher still. @jamieweissau has more at hodinkee.com.au. 🏎⌚️ by @jamieweissau

There’s something undeniably compelling about a conservative brand cutting loose and doing something a bit radical, and that's exactly what @vacheronconstantin has done with the Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points, one of the highlight watch releases of 2026.

Iterating on 2021's 'Everest' limited editions (which reference a 2019 prototype worn by mountaineer Cory Richards), the Cardinal Points is arguably the purest expression of a Vacheron Constantin sports watch to date, sporting a full titanium case and bracelet with four different sporty dials named for the different compass directions. Yet it remains a refined creation of the world's oldest continuously operating watchmaker, with a Poinçon de Genève-certified movement and elevated case finishing.

@jamieweissau dove into what makes the Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points such a compelling watch as one of the three cover stars of Hodinkee Australia & New Zealand Vol. 1, which you can now find on hodinkee.com.au.

Earlier this year at Watches and Wonders, @cartier revived the Roadster after a 14-year hiatus, bringing a host of subtle but meaningful refinements to the very Y2K, automotive-inspired sports watch. Now that it's finally available in Australia, we thought we'd see how much the Roadster has changed since its 2002 debut - we put an original Roadster and the 2026 update in @jamieweissau's hands, and he's been crunching the numbers (and has some thoughts).

Head to hodinkee.com.au for more, and stay tuned for a deeper dive in our upcoming second print edition, Hodinkee Australia & New Zealand Vol. 2, which will be out next month 👀 by @jamieweissau

We've got an exclusive for you: meet the @richardmille RM 65-01 'Sand', a green-and-gold-toned take on the high-end brand's split seconds chronograph, which has never been exhibited in Australia before - indeed, it's barely been exhibited anywhere, making it a real treat to get hands-on with. The most complex timepiece ever to leave the Richard Mille workshops, this innovative chrono features its first in-house patented rapid-winding mechanism as well as a 'gearbox' function selector housed in the crown.

That's not all. Last week, we invited Hodinkee ANZ readers to a small, exclusive event with Richard Mille in Sydney, where we got to share this watch with them as well as a few other key releases from RM. Stay tuned for our RM 65-01 review as well as a behind-the-scenes look at our event with Richard Mille on hodinkee.com.au 🏎⌚️ by @jamieweissau

Art Deco style and proportions plus a manual-winding movement for under A$2,000: @hamiltonwatch have absolutely nailed it with the new but very vintage-looking Hamilton American Classic Cushion. It’s not an Oppenheimer watch per se, but it does resemble the 1930s Cushion B that Cillian Murphy wore in the Nolan blockbuster...

Specifically, its design was inspired by Hamilton’s Cushion Plain and Cushion Engraved models of 1926. But under the hood of this American Classic is a new manual-winding movement with a Nivachron balance spring and a 57-hour power reserve. Six models are available at launch in 30mm and 34mm in stainless steel, gold PVD and even an engraved model - @jamieweissau has more at hodinkee.com.au 🇺🇸 by @jamieweissau

It’s been a freaky year for @ulyssenardin as the brand celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Freak collection and its 180th anniversary more broadly. Continuing a bumper year of new releases, now sees two new editions to the Freak One range, which slightly de-prioritise ultimate legibility in favour of celebrating traditional métiers d’art. As their names imply, the Freak One Blue Enamel and Freak One Guilloché feature dials exhibiting their namesake textures: they’re also the first Freak Ones cased in titanium. @jamieweiss has more at hodinkee.com.au

Seiko's "Incredibly Specialised Watch Exhibition" has returned for a second edition, which has made its way around the globe and is now in Australia, with the watches being exhibited at Seiko's Sydney boutique on George Street until Thursday 24th September 2026!

This playful project sees Seiko let its designers let off some steam by exploring watch concepts entirely off the beaten path: this edition is themed around "watches that 99% of people don't need", which hints at how quirky some of these concept watches are. Here's a sneak preview - let us know in the comments below which one is your favourite, and find out more at hodinkee.com.au 🌻🎅🥚🎵🥷🧛‍♂️ by @jamieweissau

WHAT’S ON THE WRIST? @jamieweissau gets hands-on with the @alangesoehne 1815 Rattrapante in platinum – one of the German firm’s slightly less flashy, perhaps slightly overlooked pieces which originally debuted in 2022 – and it's one of Lange’s most contradictory pieces. A standalone split-seconds (unusual for Lange), it's peak stealth wealth, with a white metal case and silver-toned dial with vertical subdials and a magnificent movement. Head to hodinkee.com.au for Jamie's full review, and let us know in the comments below what you think about this connoisseurs' pick from the German masters of complicated watches 🇩🇪 by @jamieweissau
