POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In honor of Black History Month, I created this short film to explore the meaning of hair in the Black community. For us, hair carries history, identity, and self-expression. While conversations about Black hair often center on Black women, and rightfully so, I wanted to take a moment to focus on Black men, whose stories around hair are rarely highlighted on their own.

I’ve noticed that the stereotype of a “well put together” Black man is often reduced to a low haircut. As shown in the film, even something as simple as searching “professional Black man” reveals how deeply that expectation is embedded in society.

This film is my way of challenging that idea. Black men’s hair is beautiful in all its forms, and we shouldn’t feel pressured to fit into narrow definitions of professionalism or acceptability. We have the right to define ourselves on our own terms. Our hair is our story and we should be able to shape it however we like.

This being my first short film I’m glad how it turned out. I literally started planning after 5pm, and that same night I directed and put together all the clips which is crazy to think about. I made my vision come to reality in such a short time frame. This is something I truly enjoy doing and I will continue to use short films as a platform to spread messages in a creative way. I appreciate all the love and support. I present to you “We Define Professional” 🫶🏾🖤
