Today is a very special day. This lovely lady right here turns the big 4-0!

If you’ve ever had the chance to spend time with this amazing human, you probably already know she’s one of the kindest, most thoughtful people you’ll ever meet. We couldn’t be more different, and I’m constantly in awe of her ability to connect with just about anyone. She’s instantly approachable, endlessly kind, and gives of herself in a way I’ve never seen in another person.

So for her 40th, I made a list of 40 things I love about her. HERE WE GO!

1. Her smile
2. Her signature laugh
3. Her shortness
4. Her tidiness
5. Her smell (usually)
6. Her creativity
7. Her board game skills
8. Her love for plants
9. Her jokes
10. The way she takes care of herself
11. Her cooking
12. Her face
13. The freckles on that face
14. The way she hugs
15. She can talk to anyone
16. She doesn’t care about fashion
17. Her bucket tattoo
18. Her thoughtfulness for others
19. She laughs at my jokes
20. She laughs at other people’s jokes
21. She just loves to laugh
22. Her intuition to help and care for people
23. Her curiosity about other people’s experiences
24. Her hunger to learn
25. Her hunger to grow emotionally
26. Her hunger for corndogs (especially after a few drinks)
27. Her little hands
28. Her gentleness
29. Her humility
30. Her bossiness (aka her ability to get stuff DONE)
31. Her empathy for people who are hurting
32. Her willingness to say sorry
33. How she never lets me go number two without talking to me
34. How she somehow always gets jump-scared by me just existing in the house

13 years ago I moved into my dorm at Biola in Southern California. That same night I asked Kara to be my girlfriend in the parking lot of Red Robin. Afterwards we went for a walk on the Huntington Pier. My parents took this picture and I guess they were secretly rooting for me to hold her hand. I didn’t. I was a newb of a boyfriend and didn’t know what the heck I was doing. I also had really sweaty hands and I didn’t want to creep her out. Honestly, I’m still not completely sure what I’m doing. BUT I DO know that I love this woman more today than I ever thought possible 13 years ago. @karalackey you still make my hands sweaty. I love you. by @jamilack

This week I flew out to my hometown to see my grandma that was just recently diagnosed with an aggressive lung cancer. It was bittersweet to get to see so much of my family (including my brother that flew in also from Germany!) These moments were precious.. and I’ll never forget them. My grandma is tough as nails though and was such and inspiration to talk to. She loves Jesus and is at peace with going to meet him whenever the time comes. Until then, we all get to enjoy her smile and witty sense of humor a bit longer ☺️ If you have a grandma, give her a call today. You won’t regret it. What we give is all we have. And how we love is what will last. by @jamilack

Snuck away with this beauty for a couple of days to do @donandrenee ‘s marriage and go DIY marriage retreat! Kara helped put the program together and did such a great job!

On the real though, marriage is tough. Kara and I have seen more change and growth and conflict in our marriage this year than ever before and it has been straight up brutiful (brutal and beautiful). Or “awesuck” (awesome and sucky) or “tofappy” (tough and happy).
Either way, it’s been quite a year. We will be sharing more about our journey in the coming months but for now I will say this to all you married couples out there.. keep going. Don’t stop. You can do this. Thank you @karalackey for keeping going with me. Even when it was really really tofappy. I love you. by @jamilack

Happy Mothers Day to the amazing @karalackey!
Being home all day for the last few months has really made me appreciate this woman. It turns out, being a mom is pretty much ALL DAY, EVERY DAY, WITH NO BREAKS. She’s a cook, a cleaner, a conflict manager, a child therapist, a hygienist, a nurse, an accountant, a life coach, an encourager, a hugger, a shoulder to cry on and a source of endless love. I truly don’t understand how God fit so much amazingness into one human, but I am thankful. Each day she shows up with a good attitude and renewed patience to help teach our little kiddos how to be humans, all while she is working on her own stuff and figuring out what it means for her to be a mother and wife. AND on top of that, she gives of herself to other mothers and helps encourage them to be better moms. Kara, you are loved and you are so so so appreciated. Thank you for everything you do for our family and for the countless sacrifices you have made to invest in our children’s physical and mental well being. You are doing incredible things and our children are going to do incredible things because of the investment of love and time that you have put into their lives. We love you.
