Grief is discovering a picture and immediately picking up the phone to ask questions, and remembering…Always, remembering. 🕊️

Grief is laughter at the sheer Black motherhood happening here. Cause I am clearly sleepy, and my Ma is clearly adamant about getting my hair together. #thatcouchtho😆

Grief is gratitude to have been loved well.

Grief is anger that I will never feel her hands in my scalp again.

Grief is joy to see my son’s face in my own.

Grief is a very real and present teacher. I don’t shut her out. The lessons are plentiful.

For those who share a similar journey of mothering without the physical presence of your own, I see you.

As we embark on the celebration of Mother’s Day and the emotions are starting to form, lean in. Ask your body what it needs. Listen. Feel. All of it. For as long as you need, in all the ways you need.

Your mother is there, too.
