This video started with a thought:
“There’s this pressure to always have something to show.”
Ironically, making this piece forced me to slow down.
I took a video, exported it frame by frame, printed contact sheets, colored them by hand, scanned everything back into my laptop, and then rebuilt the sequence one frame at a time in my editing software.
It was messy… time-consuming.. and definitely not the fastest way to make a video.
But somewhere in the middle of all that cutting, coloring, scanning, and rebuilding, I realized how much pressure I put on myself to constantly produce something new.
To have something to post..
Something to prove progress…
This piece took me almost a month.
And for once, that didn’t feel like a problem.
It reminded me that not all progress is visible. Some of it happens while you’re learning a new skill, experimenting, making mistakes, or simply spending time with an idea long enough for it to become something special that you’re now excited to share.
Maybe the pressure wasn’t coming from having nothing to show… Maybe it was coming from feeling like I always needed to?
Anyway, here’s a video made one frame at a time. #mixedmedia #storytelling #creativevideo by @jamilahache

Long over due- this year @sylviasaenzz did a quick stop in LA and we spent some of the loveliest days of the year together. We talked, walked around the city, went to catch a sunset, kept talking, had very delicious food, went to the Academy museum, watched a movie, had deep conversations about our love for Jessie Buckley and even went to a fun improv show to see my friend Joanne shine. It was refreshing✨thank you for being my friend and for sharing your wisdom and insights with me. Te admiro! Te quiero con corazones así 🫶 no asi 🫰Te quiero Mexicana ❤️ no Latinx☺️ by @jamilahache

I’ve spent a lot of time trying to define myself. Looking for the “right word,” the “right label”…
and I won’t lie “actress” is the one that gets closest because I get to live different lives, step into different worlds, feel things that aren’t mine…
but even that… never felt like the whole of me.
I’m starting to realize, I’m not meant to fit into one thing.
maybe that’s why I loved acting in the first place?
Lately, I’ve been drawn to stop motion and mixed media… this was my first time exploring a bit of both.
The idea of building something frame by frame, without needing it to be perfect… or final felt special. More to come… 🧡 by @jamilahache

A little reel from our trip to Paris earlier this year (pardon the boujeeness). We walked, we ate, we rode trains, saw the Eiffel Tower, hung with friends, we worked as well.. Rafy, music and acting all the way 🧡 At the end of each day, we had each other tambien and that was the best part of it. Today marks three years since you proposed and I said yes! 🫶 my forever partner Daniel❤️ @drojasmusic te amo! by @jamilahache

A while ago, @erikabagnarello, an incredible human, friend, writer, producer, and director, was packing her things to leave LA and start a new chapter in NYC. We talked about how much we were going to miss each other and how we never got the chance to make something together.

But if you know Erika, you know she’s full of ideas, talent, and the will to do. Very quickly, she pitched ALMA to me. We didn’t have a script, a budget, a team, or even enough time… but none of that got in the way of making this film.

Erika, I deeply admire you for being so tenacious and driven. Thank you for not leaving LA without making something together. Thank you for giving me ALMA, for letting me pour so much of myself into her that I felt vulnerable after that first cut. This project has made me grow in ways I didn’t expect.

We also got very lucky finding our post team everyone did exceptional work 🙏❤️ It’s been beautiful to see how many film festivals have opened their doors to us 🥹

Thank you for your art, amiga. I love you. by @jamilahache
