Tuesday June 16th, Jamilah Lemieux, Tanya Denise Fields, and Rell Brown are coming together to dig into the project of queering Black motherhood and what it actually looks like to raise free Black children in this world.

Jamilah Lemieux, one of the most important feminist voices of the 21st century and a pioneering voice in the Black feminist blogosphere, is bringing her debut book Black. Single. Mother. home to Brooklyn. Joining her are Tanya Denise Fields, founder of The Black Feminist Project and the Alice Fields Community Center in the Bronx, whose life’s work centers food access, Black maternal wellness, and liberation, and Rell Brown, community organizer, campaign strategist, and Jurist Doctorate candidate at CUNY Law, fighting every day to end anti-Black State violence and raising a whole free child while she does it.

Together these three women are going to tear open the project of queering Black motherhood.

This is the kind of night that reminds you why spaces like Gladys exist. Come with your thoughts, your stories, and an open heart. RSVP required (with sliding scale options). We can’t wait to see you beloved!

Not long ago, @pfpicardi hit me up and asked me if wanted to do THEE @playboy Interview with THEE @iamnialong. I’m in the middle of a book tour, a move and the most hectic season of my life—but it was an immediate ‘yes!’ It was an honor to talk to our forever crush about reuniting with Larenz Tate, stepping into the role of Katherine Jackson and two of my favorite subjects: co-parenting and dating younger men. She was just as fabulous, funny and real as I knew she would be. Check out the link to both the written and video versions of the interview in my bio! by @jamilahlemieux

(A) Black Single Mother needs your help! My debut book is out March 10 and I have EVERYTHING riding on it. The success of this book may determine my future. Mini is going to college in 5 years, this is a “Man down, code 10” situation! Folks have asked how they can be helpful—here are a few ways that would be HIGHLY appreciated!

-Buy the book! (Preferably from an indie bookseller but do what you gotta do.)
-Leave a review!
-Post about the book (I can send you graphics!)
-Interview me for your podcast or ask your fave podcast to have me on!
-Donate to the tour fund (I have every payment app!)
-Come to an event!
-Book me to speak to your school or organization!
-Choose BSM for your book club! (I’ll do a Zoom with y’all!)
-Defend me when the pushback starts!

Grateful for those of you who have supported me thus far! This is a scary and thrilling time!

I’ve been remiss about posting, well, everything. I forgot to share this lovely interview @thedanielleyoung did with me for BET a little while ago where I discuss writing Black Single Mother, how @theminimilah has reacted, and more! Also, I am very much still on tour and beating the drum about this book! Check me out in Chicago next week and stay tuned for new dates soon! Links for everything in my bio. by @jamilahlemieux

SOS! TLDR: Book talk next week @callandresponsechi, forgot to promote it, begging you to come so I’m not embarrassed on my birthday.

Some honesty: Most of what you’ve seen me do with this book tour, I’ve managed on my own—while trying to raise a kid and survive capitalism. I’ve dropped the ball a few times and failing to adequately promote my *birthday* celebration/book talk next week with @arieldeney and @thehustlemommies is an example. Now I’m scared that we’re gonna be talking to an empty room and I end up eating a whole cake by myself. Begging and pleading folks to come out and bring friends—please, don’t make me eat the cake alone. by @jamilahlemieux

Best Essence fest ever! Boy, did we have a time! I got to be on panels with @nikolehannahjones @michellemiller29 @tiffanydcross and thee @ihartericka. Ran the streets with my boo @kiarapesante, saw so many people I love. Got read down with love by @bevysmith. Connected with amazing writers like @kemidoll and finally had face-to-face time with @tayari. Listened to @mayorbmscott credit every good thing in his life to Black women. Met women all weekend who told me they love me and how I show up for Black women and girls. Networked my butt off to the point where I’m already booked for next year’s festival. I got to share my book baby with the women I wrote it for! AND I got to see Cardi, Kehlani, Patti LaBelle, Babyface, Brandy, Monica, Tevin Campbell, MC Lyte, Scarface, Public Enemy and more at the concerts. Can’t wait till you see what I’m cooking up for 2027! by @jamilahlemieux
