My life changed forever on 5/20/2020 at 10:55am 🕊️💔💜when I received two back to back calls. Minutes later I went from being the middle child to the oldest. Days like today never get easier because grieving joins your journey just like everything else throughout life. It’s yours to experience (I always say you will have good moments on bad days and bad moments on good days) and learn how to navigate it. Yes, my cross to carry got even heavier 6 years ago due to the innate feeling to grab my brother Rell’s cross here on 🌏. The beauty of helping to carry his cross is seeing his/our family legacy carry on. It’s never going to be the same BUT he left us with a lot to smile about this month. A few weeks ago my 💜💜twin nieces Maria & Maryah (his youngest set) attended prom, they shared their Senior pics and next week I will travel back home to Detroit to watch them graduate from high school. I know Rell would be smiling ear to ear and posting their photos one by one on Facebook bragging on how beautiful his daughters looked if he was still on this side. Loved how classy they looked and that they was showered with ❤️❤️ from our family just like I was 28 years ago. Speaking of my prom in 1998- my two Forever Friends Shelby & Maya who were also at my house on prom day - showed up for my nieces in my absence- now that’s what 🗣️REAL FRIENDS do! Both Maria and Maryah have characteristics from & like my brother that make me smile. Just yesterday they were babies and now they are 18 year old young women about to venture off into the world 🌎 to experience life. Although it’s days that leave me speechless with grief, there are days where seeing, talking to, praying for, wondering about where life is going to take them or even thinking about his 9 kids help keep Rell alive to me. Rell’s legacy 💜 will forever live on and I will always be my Brother’s Keeper. #MyBrothersKeeper #JammOnItNieces #DetroitGirls @mariadomoniquee @iiiiamaryah by @jammonit

1️⃣ week ago on August 10th… I hit a milestone in life. I celebrated 45 trips around the ☀️! To be honest…. I feel like everyday of our lives should be treated like a milestone because no day is ever really promised. Growing old is a blessing to me and I don’t feel ashamed of it. I think the last five years should have taught us that. I haven’t had a “birthday celebration” at home since 2011 and really didn’t plan on having one this year - but some kind of way with some convincing from my cousin @meetcarles since last year…. I did 🧐. I am LEO ♌️ in so many ways but really prefer to chill & avoid the spotlight in the traditional sense. I asked not to make an entrance— and my family totally ignored my request 🫨😂🥴🧐🫠- but my mom- sister and nieces partied with me. One of the biggest lessons of my life lately has been really believing everything happens for a reason- therefore I am glad people from so many paths on my journey these last 45 years came out to celebrate with me- that included family (both blood and chosen), the first time my 9 nieces and 2 nephews got to party with TeeTee, having both of my little sisters in the same room with me, my Forever Friends, my 🐘🔺 Sorors, my classmates from elementary- middle-high school, my girlies & homeboys from different circles and my WMU Broncos! As we age- most reunions happen at funerals so I am just GLAD to receive the ❤️ on a happy occasion. Grateful for the ❤️, the people like @tanner_banner09 who helped me with my last minute planning (I never forgot who is there to help me) and I have 1,913 more photos and words to share about how I feel and the power of sisterhood/womanhood with my Exquisite personal @iamangelawright - but I wanted to just say THANKS first to everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday and thought enough of me to venture to the East side newest venue- @meandyoueast to celebrate me! Kudos to Sonjie for the vision and James for leading the way as the project manager for our team. None of it is easy but we all did it🫶🏿💪🏿. ・・・ Repost from @sonjeproductions Production is not for the weak hearted. It takes years of experience to have a certain level of expertise, and you still learn on the job because an unexpected circumstance may arise, and you have to pivot your whole production. Something you planned for 18 months may have to change in 3 days. It’s 16 hours of work days consecutively on your feet in the hot sun or cold weather. However, it is what the @sonjeproductions does, and we appreciate everyone who helps us make it look easy. Thank you to all our vendors who made @aframfestival a success this year. If you really know me… then you know that even after 20 years of living in Maryland- I always rep home- 🗣️ Detroit no matter where I am at and who I am with…no exceptions! You also know for almost the same amount of time… 🗣️ Blow The Whistle has been and is still MY JAM! It’s the song that will get me to the dance floor, out of my seat with my hands in the air (even by myself) or feeling like I have no care in the world. Also, as a 80’s kid- everyone had an uncle (or two like me) that played the Too Short music that you wasn’t supposed to hear as a kid 🥴😂- but it put you on game! So it was cool to finally meet the legend himself while working backstage at the Magic of Maryland Concert with @dnice and The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra along with a heavy roster of musical guests in Baltimore. I made my way to the front of the stage when his set started and took 10 mins of PTO to enjoy it 🥴😂. Thanks @sonjieluvs for approving it! You can even hear me in one of these videos telling Deborah Cox she was on her own when Blow The Whistle came on bc I initially escorted her out to enjoy the show from the audience view after her set. Thanks @kimberly_not_kim_ for the intro 🫶🏿. 👋🏿. Here’s an excerpt from my latest article for @heragenda. What was supposed to be a quick tour stop in their Baltimore hometown ended up expanding to The Let’s Share Conference hosted at Morgan State University. @self.ishbeauty owners @janeenadore, @kellslovesit and @keishanichole could have simply shared their friend & Mielle Organics Founder Monique Rodriguez @exquisitemo book announcement on their social media channels or purchased a few copies to give away. “However, we don’t do anything mediocre,” Janeen said during the event. My event recap also captured just a fraction of the powerhouse women from diverse industries like that took to the @letsshareco stage to also share “The Glory In Their Stories”. One moment that probably received 1,913 of its’ views thanks to me was hearing Baltimore’s First Lady Hana Scott @hanalulu12 talk about what Black women are constantly task to do and be seen in some spaces! 💜 to my @sonjeproductions colleagues James, Amy and Kennedey for helping with day of stage production for this event. We are 2️⃣ weeks away from the 2025 Health & Mental Wellness Summit presented by CareFirst happening on Thursday, February 27th at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum in Baltimore, MD. This is one of several events we (Sonjé Productions team) will produce for the 2025 CIAA Tournament Community Programming brought to you by Visit Baltimore and the Local Contributors Team. Proud to be on the production team helping to execute this day of programming aimed at educating our community on various topics in the Health & Mental Wellness space. This has been a labor of love pulling together so many of my talents + interests + experiences. As co-lead for this Summit, I get to blend my event production/planning & speaker liaison/talent management skills with my Counseling education alongside a team to help produce this event for the 2nd year in a row.
