First HYROX. First solo race.
What an experience — London 🇬🇧💂🏼

So many emotions, so many thoughts, so many memories made.

11 weeks of training done, and if anything, the itch has only grown stronger !!!

1:26:52 ⏰

I went into this race without a specific time goal. Being my first, I just wanted to experience it fully and understand what it really feels like to race.
That said, I know I’m capable of more. Still, this is a strong place to build from.

What I am proud of: I managed the course well, stayed focused throughout, and kept it clean. No penalties, no confusion.

When it got tough, I just kept repeating: “just keep swimming” — if you know, you know 🐠 (finding nemo)

So… when’s the next one? 👀 @dariussirimie

Also, super grateful to @_jason.media for capturing my first race experience, especially on such short notice 🤍🙏🏼

Time to build 🦋

21.1 km because I turned 21 today 🐛🌿☀️
An 18-minute PB from my last half marathon, which was exactly one year ago…

Whaaat is life 🥹 Honestly — a little more self-belief, trust in your path, patience, and hard work really do make the dreams work.

I can’t imagine a better start to the day than an early birthday run: just me, a podcast, and my feet moving through nature, doing what I love 🌿🤸🏼‍♀️

Here’s your gentle reminder: be kinder to yourself, trust that what’s meant for you will always find you — and just keep going, keep working, and keep being a little crazy and obsessed about your ambitions & dreams 🤭🫶🏼

Acute soft-tissue injury management is more than just controlling pain and swelling in the first few days.

The goal is not simply to “rest it until it feels better”, but to support recovery, restore function and gradually rebuild the tissue’s capacity to tolerate load.

That is where PEACE & LOVE comes in. 🕊️❤️

From a sports therapy perspective, the important part is recognising that rehabilitation is not completely passive. Appropriate, progressive loading helps restore strength, movement, proprioception and ultimately the physical demands required for sport.

That also means finding the middle ground:
❌ completely ignoring pain and continuing as normal
❌ avoiding movement indefinitely
✅ modifying load, monitoring symptoms and progressively exposing the tissue to more

Pain is information. So are swelling, function, movement quality and the way the tissue responds later that day and over the following 24–48 hours.

And no… your rehab homework probably won’t complete itself either. 👀

✂️ vs 🪨 — Rehab Edition

There are a lot of beliefs around injury and recovery that sound logical, but don’t always reflect what we currently understand from research and clinical practice.

❌ Back pain = avoid movement
❌ Rehab = resistance bands forever
❌ One massage should fix every ache
❌ Pain always means damage
❌ Rest until everything feels 100%

In reality, rehabilitation is usually much more individual.
It’s about understanding the problem, managing load, rebuilding strength and capacity, gradually exposing the body to movement again, and using treatments such as sports massage or manual therapy as part of the bigger picture, not as a magic fix.

Educational content only. Individual injuries and symptoms should always be assessed appropriately !!!

When your knee, ankle, or shoulder starts aching, resting it can feel sensible. But complete avoidance is not always the answer.

When we continually remove load, our tolerance to that load can reduce. Activities that once felt manageable may start to feel more challenging, and the nervous system can become increasingly protective around movement.

The goal of rehab is therefore not simply to rest until everything feels perfect.

It is to gradually rebuild what the knee can tolerate.

a sprinkle of life lately 🍂 by @janasavulescu

A day in my life: final-year sports therapy student 🧚🏼‍♀️

Off day from uni, so it was a “go to a cafe and study” kind of day (my fave) 🫶🏼

Revised pretty much everything around the hip joint — anatomy, joint structure and function, biomechanics, movement… the lot :)) Then moved on and started revising the knee.

I like going back over the foundations from the first and second years. It helps me refresh the smaller details that are easy to forget, while also preparing myself better for placements and future opportunities !!

University gives you the bread and butter of Sports Therapy, but I’ve found that if you really want to deepen your knowledge, improve your clinical reasoning and stand out within the field, a lot of that development comes from self-directed learning outside of lectures.

This week has been a little more relaxed so far, which has given me some extra time to study and reset. I’m starting placement again next week, though… so I know the busy days and weeks are about to begin again 🫠

Active Insufficiency
→ This occurs when a multi-joint muscle becomes so shortened across the joints it crosses that its ability to generate further active force is reduced.

Both the gastrocnemius and the hamstrings contribute to knee flexion — and both are biarticular muscles, meaning they cross and act across two joints.

When you point your toes during a Swiss ball hamstring curl, the gastrocnemius shortens across the ankle. Because it crosses both the ankle and the knee, being shortened at the ankle puts it in a less favourable position to contribute strongly to knee flexion.

So, by pointing the toes, we can reduce the gastrocnemius’ contribution and make the exercise feel more hamstring-dominant. 🫶🏼
