Just dropping in with a little sunday song.
It’s been quiet here lately — but not in the real world.
For the past weeks, I’ve been preparing for a journey to the far end of the country that begins in just a few days. I’ll be spending four weeks tucked away in a very special house, just to focus on writing. I’ll share more details soon.

I’m filled with excitement — and, as always, a touch of that familiar fear that comes when creativity is no longer a gentle guest, but an expectation. Anyway, you’ll be hearing from me, and I’ll keep you posted!

MORGEN erscheint eine neue Folge von THE OTHER YOU – dem Podcast über Pop, Persönlichkeit und Stimme. ❤️

@lie__ning erschafft mit einem bemerkenswerten Sinn für Ästhetik einen ganz eigenen, kreativen Kosmos zwischen Musik, Performance und Mode,
in dem es vor allem um eines geht: kompromisslose Selbstentfaltung.

Es entstehen Songs zwischen Indie, Soul und R’n’B, die atmosphärisch dicht, aber gleichzeitig tanzbar, leicht und lebensbejahend daherkommen. Hört man aber genauer hin, entdeckt man in den Texten eine Ernsthaftigkeit und bisweilen auch Schwere, die man inhaltlich gar nicht erwartet.

Es geht um zwischenmenschliche Dynamiken, Zugehörigkeit, Identität, Selbstfindung und um die persönlichen Erfahrungen als queere Schwarze Person, deren bloße Existenz in dieser Gesellschaft schon zum Politikum wird.

Entstanden ist ein sehr persönliches Gespräch in dem wir über eine ungewöhnliche Kindheit in einem alternativen Hausprojekt in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg sprechen, über die ersten Schritte in Richtung Musikindustrie, mit der Peer zunächst eigentlich gar nichts zu tun haben wollte, und über der Suche nach dem eigenen künstlerischen Ausdruck – gegen viele Widerstände.

Außerdem reden wir über die neue EP BULLFIGHT die gerade erschienen ist, und natürlich über die Beweggründe für den Umzug und Peers neues Leben in London.

Spring has sprung. ❤️

The past few weeks have carried me like a tide — through lots of emotions, across changing landscapes, and onto various stages.

Just before Easter, I found my way back to @mare_kuenstlerhaus, returning not just to a place, but to a feeling — to share my work once more within its quiet magic. I love it there.

Afterwards, I disappeared for a few days into nature. And then I followed @janplewka_official 's invitation for a duet at @moritzbastei. Backstage I even had a meet and greet with @riasingt! 😉😘

Over the years, I’ve had many — and very different — singing teachers who accompanied me through various stages of my life. Yesterday, I reunited with one who shaped me in a particularly profound way.

I met her at a time when I had already set my heart on becoming a professional singer and wanted nothing more than to study music. And yet, I was full of doubt — unsure of my own voice, afraid of the entrance exams, sometimes so overwhelmed that singing itself caused physical pain. @angelagabrielmusic was my rock in that storm. She gently led me back to the joy of singing. I owe her more than I can say.

The older I get, the more I understand how important — and potentially life-changing — truly good teachers are: the ones who really see you and support you with honesty and care. I’m deeply aware of the responsibility I carry in this profession, and I truly hope I’ll have many more years to keep growing — as a human being, as an artist, and as a teacher.

And with that, I’ll let this little nostalgic interlude fade out. 😉❤️ by @janda_sings

Ein »Has-been« ist jemand, der einmal berühmt war – die Vergangenheitsform lässt erahnen, dass das heute nicht mehr so ist. Sich selbst so zu bezeichnen, verlangt nicht nur eine ordentliche Portion Selbstironie, sondern auch genügend zeitliche und emotionale Distanz zur eigenen Geschichte. Malte Huck (@huckmal) hat im Februar dieses Jahres unter dem Namen BEACHPEOPLE sein erstes Soloalbum „has-been“ veröffentlicht – und ist in dieser Folge mein Gast.

Sechs Jahre ist sein Ausstieg als Bassist bei @annenmaykantereit nun her. Nicht viel Zeit, aber immerhin genug für einen radikalen Neuanfang. So ist „has-been“ ist zu einem sehr persönlichen Archiv von Maltes bisherigen Lebensstationen geworden. Und genau über diese Stationen wollte ich mit ihm sprechen.

In dieser Episode geht es um die Reise vom kommerziell erfolgreichen Künstler zum Independent Artist – um große Entscheidungen, 6 Kisten Familienfotos, die Angst vor dem Mikrofon, Abschiede, Trauer, Fame und Freiheit.

What a time to be alive. These times feel surreal and frightening, but they make me all the more grateful for a September that opened so many doors. So many different worlds, unique challenges, so many feelings to feel and wonderful people to meet — all tied together by the one thing that keeps me going: music. Being an artist is such a privilege, and I feel that now more than ever.
