✨ DAY ONE at Vancouver Fashion Week: Darling, let’s put a little embroidery on that gentleman! 💙

Every look begins with a fantasy, and this one was born from my fascination with the exquisite beading and embroidery traditionally lavished upon a couture gown. But why should all that beauty belong to eveningwear for women? I say, let the gentlemen have their moment!

Angelo and I dreamed up a look that would translate that ornate, romantic embellishment into menswear, with baby blue as our inspiration. Angelo brought the vision to life, creating the beautiful appliqués that transform this jacket into a wearable work of art. Against the subtle sheen of the fabric, every detail tells a story of craftsmanship, imagination and a little fashion fantasy.

For me, this is what personal style is all about: taking inspiration from the world around us , challenging conventions and making the look entirely your own. Fashion has no gender rules when creativity takes the lead. And darling, why should the girls have all the fun? 😉

What do you think of my Day One look? Tell me in the comments, and if you’re at Vancouver Fashion Week, come say hello! Let’s celebrate the designers, the artistry and the glorious individuality that make fashion worth showing up for.

DAY 1: VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK — DARLINGS, WE ARE OFF! ✨

Vancouver came dressed to impress, and the crowds turned out in all their splendour! The streets may be casual, but when fashion week calls, we know how to bring the drama. And darling, the runway is only half the show!

The evening began with the Originator Awards, celebrating those making a meaningful contribution to fashion and culture. Congratulations to all the recipients! 🏆

A very special congratulations to Colleen Tsoukalas, whose tireless work continues to fight the good fight, bringing fashion, art, and culture to the masses, particularly the next generation. Making fashion accessible, inspiring young people, and nurturing creativity is no small feat. We need more of this, not less!

Then, it was time for the runway. Richard Wei and Brunette the Label closed out the evening, giving us a fabulous finish to opening night. Two different names, two distinct fashion perspectives, and a reminder of the creative energy that makes Vancouver Fashion Week such an exciting platform for local and international talent.

And this, my darlings, is only the beginning! Five nights of Spring/Summer 2027 fashion lie ahead, with designers ready to bring their visions, craftsmanship, and imagination to David Lam Hall.

Day 1? A splendid success. The fashion parade has begun!

Will I see you at the runway? Come dressed in your most fabulous looks, celebrate the designers, and don’t be shy — say hello when you see me!

VALENTINO S/S 2027 — MORE IS MORE. And Alessandro Michele is making a very convincing case for it.

Alessandro Michele presented his fourth ready-to-wear collection for Valentino, and I think he’s finally starting to look completely at home in the house. There’s a confidence here — the feeling of a designer who knows the vocabulary of Valentino and is now having fun speaking it in his own very Italian, very maximalist accent.

Michele is a designer obsessed with detail. Rhinestones, ruffles, lace, jewellery, feathers, beautifully worked tailoring — there is always something else to discover. And in a fashion moment where minimalism is finally loosening its grip, his instinct for more is more feels wonderfully relevant.

But this isn’t maximalism for maximalism’s sake. Michele is finding a fascinating balance between his own romantic eccentricity and the glamour, elegance and perfectionism of Valentino Garavani. The eveningwear was particularly strong: some looks were gloriously ornate, while others let a beautiful silhouette and a dramatic train do the talking.

And then there was the setting: the magnificent Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève, with Michele building the show around his idea of an “anti-library” — a celebration of books unread and possibilities unexplored. Because really, isn’t a wardrobe much the same thing? All those pieces waiting for the right moment, the right mood, the right version of ourselves.

I’ve always believed fashion should give us permission to play. And Alessandro Michele certainly isn’t asking us to behave.

More colour. More embellishment. More personality. More fashion.

Frankly, darlings, I’m here for it.

STOP THE PRESSES. Vancouver is about to get fashionable. 💋

Vancouver Fashion Week returns October 14–18 with the S/S 2027 collections, and I’m already clearing my calendar—and possibly my closet.

Five days. New designers. Big ideas. Runway drama. And enough fashion to keep us talking long after the final walk.

I’ll be there taking it all in, watching for the silhouettes, the styling, the unexpected moments and, of course, the looks that make me say, “Oh, darling. THAT’S fashion.”

So, Vancouver, are you ready?

🎟️ Get your tickets through the Vancouver Fashion Week website and join me at the runway.

See you there. Dress accordingly.

SCHIAPARELLI S/S 2027 — THE JACKET IS THE MOMENT

Schiaparelli is the pinnacle of luxury, and Daniel Roseberry continues to prove that even the ready-to-wear can have the vitality—and attitude—of Haute Couture.

For Spring/Summer 2027, Roseberry puts the Schiap jacket centre stage: sculptural, surreal and designed to command attention from the waist up. It’s a delicious nod to Elsa Schiaparelli’s original idea that everything above the table should be where the drama happens.

Sensuality, slinkiness and sculpture have become Roseberry signatures, and this collection gives us all three. I love a beautifully cut jacket, a dress that appears almost seamless, and a silhouette that knows exactly when to make an entrance.

It’s all about the eveningwear. Bravo.

I can already imagine the Schiap woman throwing one of these magnificent jackets over a pair of jeans. Because sometimes the point of getting dressed is not to blend in—it’s to make a statement.

And darling, Schiaparelli has never been particularly interested in whispering.

What do you think? Is the Schiap jacket the ultimate power piece for S/S 2027?

Formalwear, but make it J. Andrew. 🖤

A tuxedo jacket covered in pearls, a dramatic white pussybow and a whole lot of black. Because dressing formally doesn’t mean checking your personality at the door.

I say give classic tailoring a little theatre. After all, why blend in when you can make an entrance?

What’s your take on formalwear with a little more attitude? Tell me in the comments.

OUT & ABOUT: CARLO COUTURE

Saturday night took me to an East Vancouver warehouse for Juan Carlo’s first solo show — the Filipino-Canadian designer behind Vancouver label Carlo Couture.

With family, friends and Vancouver’s fashion community filling the room, Carlo presented three distinct wardrobes for the same contemporary woman: eveningwear, office dressing and colourful weekend looks. All serving distinct looks with feminine classic vibes.

The eveningwear opened with polished glamour: a satin corset and matching skirt, a black high-low dress, and a full-length column with sheer fabric beginning at the knee. Well-crafted, youthful and designed for occasions ranging from weddings to graduation.

Then came the officewear, where Carlo’s tailoring skills really caught my attention. A standout black blazer with extended shoulders and a fitted torso brought structure and attitude to the wardrobe. Office dressing, but with the personality switched on.

My favourite was the final collection. Apple-green satin, an acid-yellow pencil skirt and playful structured tops injected colour and fun. A bold blue satin, double-breasted top with cold-shoulder detailing had the kind of presence that enters the room before you do.

Did I see something I’d never seen before? No. And that’s perfectly alright.

What I saw was a young designer with a solid foundation, a clear customer and the technical skills to develop his point of view. Carlo Couture may still be finding its signature, but Juan Carlo is clearly on a forward trajectory.

For a first solo show? A fabulous way to make an entrance.
