I have to admit that being an artist is basically pretty selfish. Long hours ignoring the housework, piles of ironing, total lack of attention to the domestic nitty gritty… So maybe we artists should give an occasional thought to our long suffering spouses and family. Apparently, sometimes, all they want to do is EAT SOMETHING! Beats me …🤷‍♀️ by @janeembersonart

I feel the summer of experimentation coming to a natural end but excited for the next phase…! by @janeembersonart

I’m extremely lucky to live on a Greek island, and paint most days for no reason other than I love it. However, I do miss seeing art for real , and thanks to the strange world we live in, find myself casting a tiny rod out into a vast ocean in the hope of catching a sprat or two (no offence intended to anyone who kindly ‘Likes’ my posts - I’m truly thrilled with each and every one) ! 😂❤️ but in the grand scheme of things, I really wonder what the heck I’m doing….? Ultimately, I guess it’s all about connection. Just making the stuff and putting it out there even if only a handful of people see it…I genuinely love looking at other artists’ work and connecting. Looking forward to my next trip to London to feed my soul! Meanwhile, I suppose I’ll keep doing it, and if that fails maybe I’ll try my luck at DJ-ing or goat herding…?😂 🐐 by @janeembersonart

I always think creating a new work of art and propping it up against the wall, is a bit like inviting a stranger into your home, complete with its own quirkiness and unfamiliar energy. I’ve also realised that sometimes you just have to let it sit there and natter away to itself and just get to know it. Then sometimes you find you find the stranger that you weren’t sure about, or even hated, starts growing on you and you maybe even learn to love it a little, and suddenly they’re the best thing since sliced bread and you’re talking MARRIAGE! 💒 😳😳Hmm. I usually find the last glass of wine before bed plays a big part in this . Let’s see how we feel in the morning. It either stays or they get the old heave ho…!😂 by @janeembersonart

It was 42C today in Corfu, and my feet were in danger of catching fire on the plastic sheeting so I took the day off! This is another from The Here and Now series - 80 x 100 cms acrylic and solvent based paint on canvas. It’s non identical twin to follow … by @janeembersonart

These words apply to literally everyone; but speaking as an artist, not everyday finds you bursting with enthusiasm even if it’s your greatest passion. I woke up in the dark as usual, thinking how I would tackle the day’s painting. Normally I have some ideas buzzing round, but today - nothing. Even when it got light. I just didn’t want to stick my head back in the lion’s jaw. Then I saw a post by artist @jdisegno talking about how important it was to just show up, and how you wouldn’t give some lame excuse to your boss about why you weren’t coming in that day so why would you treat yourself/own business that way?! Wise words indeed! So I started. Dragged two pieces of plywood up from my store, gessoed/sandpapered/ repeat x 3, (boring)!, and a few hours under the baking Greek sun, here’s the result. This is from my new series: The Here and Now 80 x 100 cms. by @janeembersonart

Another day, another canvas. Or rather, same canvas, more layers, total destruction and rebuilding. I learn so much from the process and find the destruction strangely liberating. by @janeembersonart
