POSTS STORIES REELS

💛 I think as artists, it's so incredibly important to find ways to keep our cups full (as I mentioned in my last post). With busy lives, it's so hard to find the time sometimes, but without doing that it's so hard to create from a place of joy.

Something I found a few years ago was ukulele. I found an awesome teacher online (Cynthia Lin) and I learned so much in the next few years from her.

Then, I realized what I really had always wanted was to learn to play guitar, but it just felt too scary at the time, feeling like I wasn't a "musical person". But once I started playing uke (called the "gateway instrument" by our musically inclined neighbors 😆), I realized I am and always have been "a musical person"... I just never really tended that interest, more from being too scared and not having the time or motivation to do it.

So, a few years ago, after playing the uke for a while, I finally picked up guitar as well. It IS harder, andI do enjoy it. BUT, I have yet to find a guitar teacher that is as fun as Cynthia was for the ukulele! So, in my spare time, I do play a bit, but if you know a great guitar teacher, send them my way! I'm hoping to really get more into it this next fall when we come home from our next trip out west in the van.

I have also dabbled in djembe drumming and Traditional native American flute, which is a beautiful instrument. We bought ours while in Sedona a couple years ago.

Although, I think what I'd really LOVE to learn is steel drums, honestly.... *someday* I will make time for that! 😆 I certainly am *multipassionnate* haha.

❓Can anyone relate? 😆

💛 Something else I've been doing lately is taking my first ever pottery class on the wheel. What a learning curve! I am enjoying it, and it's so different from most other creative things I have done. I have managed to make a bowl, and by the end of class it will be glazed and ready for use! I'm hoping to take another class soon as this one was just a 4 week primer to see if I like it and want to invest in a longer, more intense class.

I feel like I do need other forms of creativity besides painting and drawing to keep my cup "full". I do love nature crafts like making wreaths and candles, and I have found I enjoy needle felting in the last year as well. And of course, I try to walk regularly outside as well as our annual summer trip in the van out west every year.

❓What kinds of things do you do to keep your cup full that allow you to continue to create? 👇

💛 I recently and FINALLY discovered my preferred medium: gouache painting - and I took a local class on it in January. I LOVE this medium! How did I make it so far in my life and creative journey without trying it (or even hearing about it really?). Crazy!

I have been trying to learn watercolor for years, and I just have never really liked it. It was kind of a love / hate relationship 😂 But upon finding gouache, I felt like "this is it! I love this!".💛

❓How do you feel about gouache? Do you have a love / hate relationship with any art medium? 😆

Wow. How is it already the end of January? This month was so full, I definitely need some time to rest and catch up with *life* things.

I have found that I definitely struggle with the belief that "it takes the time it takes" to complete something, and not feeling like I have to push to get stuff done. I definitely do a *much* better job at this than I used to, but as an entrepreneur still trying to get my business off the ground, it's SO hard sometimes to just let things "be" what they are: When it feels like things move at the pace of molasses, allowing that to just be. When I know I need to rest proactively, and doing it without guilt.

I'm getting better, but it's a practice for sure! Some weeks I do great, and other weeks I put the pressure on myself for a while before I realize I'm doing it. Awareness is the first step to change, and it's getting better, but the struggle is real sometimes!
