Music up. Windows down. A little dust. A little middle of nowhere.

Backroads, scenic routes, and sun on my face. Exactly how I like to roll. Don’t ever hop in my passenger seat if you aren’t prepared for detours like this. 😜. Your girl put some miles on it.

Only regret? Not having time to make it to that last pic. My very fav alpine lake. Guess I’ll just have to go back.

If this is how fall starts, then I’m all in. šŸ‚šŸ§”

Turns out a barn and your besties are all that you need. Pumpkins and petals, our fav songs, and making our own bouquets it’s what girls love. At least this one does.

My Heidi is the best. I may have been late but so glad I made it. Dancing in barns, recommend 10/10.

It’s only been a week and I can’t help wishing we did this every month. Also, I swear I was having fun. I had to concentrate lol. Suuuper rusty. I haven’t danced in what feels like forever.

P.S. As much as I love this barn, give me a smooth dance floor and it is onnnnnnn.šŸ”„

Finding my balance as the szn shifts.šŸ‚

I’m either full gas or full stop, with very little in between. Slowing down a little making sure I soak up these days as they turn more shades of golden by the minute. I think that’s my favorite part about this time of year.

Settling into it, one breath at a time.

Calm doesn’t mean passive. Quiet doesn’t mean unsure.. Being comfortable in your skin, your own self, is a kind of confidence that doesn’t need anyone else’s permission. And it took me my entire life to get here.

Jiu Jitsu has taught me more about myself than anything else ever has. It taught me that I could keep going when things felt impossible.

You get humbled. Fail. Succeed. Question yourself. Your judgement. Your body. Mind. Until the day you learn to trust yourself. Know, you got you. And that’s priceless.

The days turned into months that turned into years and one day, I realized that I can get thru incredibly hard things. And it is something that has translated into every space of my life.

This picture popped up in my memories for today and I barely recognize the girl in it. Blissfully, a blue belt.šŸ˜‚. No idea how hard the years ahead were going to be. And they were. And full of some of the most beautiful moments. Connections.

Three times this week people have commented on my confidence. My presence. Whaaat? Not me. I’ve always been uncomfortable with that word, confidence. Saw it as a negative. I’ve always equated it with ego. Of which, I have none. When I hear that word, it makes me wonder if they think I’m being too much. I should say, be less. But I look at this girl in the pic and I get it.

Jiu Jitsu taught me how to be uncomfortable and stay. How to trust myself. Take up space because I had proved that I earned it. Deserved it. This art has a way of showing you exactly who you are. The mats never lie.

When I look back at this šŸ’™ chapter of my life, I realize that somewhere along the way, I stopped needing to prove that I belonged in that room. I got comfortable being uncomfortable. Learned to keep a calm mind when things got intense. Stand my ground. Eventually, this became the way I moved thru this world and I never even saw it coming.

Idk. Maybe that’s what other people see in the woman I am today.

A little throwback to a part of my story I almost never share.šŸ–¤

California Native American Day is more than a celebration. It is a recognition of the resilience, survival, sovereignty, and continued presence of California’s Tribal Nations.

Yesterday, Native people from across the state gathered in record numbers at the Capitol to honor the people, cultures, and histories of the Tribal Nations who have called these lands home since time immemorial. California is home to largest Native population of any state and to 109 federally recognized tribes, including mine.

Seeing the flags lining the steps of the Capitol was such a powerful reflection of the rich diversity of California native people. It was deeply meaningful to see these tribes represented so strongly and to know our voices are being heard in a place where decisions affecting our people have been being made for generations.

Watching the dancers, hearing the songs, and seeing culture keeps share their knowledge with anyone willing to listen and learn was incredible - especially on those grounds. Significant considering it wasn’t until 1978 that federal policy formally recognized protections for our traditionall religions, ceremonies, and rites.

We have come so far and while there is so much more work to be done, I left feeling inspired. Hopeful.

It was a beautiful day to be a California Native and to be Pit River, Ajumawi. I was deeply honored to share it alongside our Tribal leadership and members, and especially proud to see our Chairman represent our people so well.

She’s always got me feeling some kind of way.

And somehow, the last flight of summer found me exactly where I wanted to be. Imagine that.😜

My favorite place on earth, surrounded by some of my very favs, and a sky that was literal fire. There’s nowhere else I would’ve rather been.

One last summer side quest.✨

Not all who wander are lost….sometimes we’re just following the forecast.šŸ™ŒšŸ½

Srsly tho…this was all I needed to close out an incredible summer of flying. A spontaneous road trip with my girl, getting to fly with my longtime homies, and soak up some sweet, sweet air. i was even lucky enough to land at the vineyard where the party was at with live music and the crowds a cheering.

Yeah. Something just like this. Exactly how it should be. Until next time!šŸ¤™šŸ¼šŸ¦‹

This week marked the close of a decades-long fight by the Pit River Nation and significant new chapter for the Medicine Lake Highlands.

The final geothermal infrastructure was removed from this sacred landscape, bringing a decades long physical presence to an end. For our people, these are not simply public lands. They are our homelands - lands and water our people have prayed upon, gathered from, cared for, and protected since time immemorial.

What was at stake was enormous. Development would have brought wells, pipelines, infrastructure, and nearly a 50-megawatt geothermal facility into the heart of this extraordinary watershed. Standing there, seeing the scale of what was attempted, made the significance of this victory impossible to miss.

Science has confirmed what we’ve always known. These waters are extraordinary. Sattitla sits at the heart of a highly productive aquifer. Where rain and snow pass thru and connect to some of the largest waterways and ecosystems in communities far away.

For thirty years our people, and others, refused to accept that outcome. My mom was one of them. As Chairperson, she once stood in the headquarters and served this company an eviction notice. All these years later, I was there to see that chapter finally close. A full circle moment.

Some victories take generations. One voice, a small group, and people unwilling to give up really can do the impossible and stand up to corporations, money, and the machine. And prevail.

Thank you to the Ajumawi and Pit River Tribal members and leadership who there on this day, to those who were there in spirit, and everyone who carried this fight before us and alongside us. Because they did, future generations will continue to have these lands and waters to protect, pray upon, and come home to.

Our kids deserve every opportunity to learn, grow, and build a strong foundation for their future. In a small community, the strength of our schools reaches far beyond the classroom and helps shape the community around them.

That is what led me to put my name forward for the Mountain Grove Board of Trustees this November.

I am approaching this opportunity with a willingness to listen, learn, ask thoughtful questions, and be present for the work. I look forward to hearing from the families, teachers, staff, and community members and gaining a deeper understanding of what matters most to those our school serves.

If you’d like to come meet the candidates, ask questions, or simply say hello, I’d love to see you at the Board of Trustees Candidate Meet and Greet on September 22, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Montgomery Creek School Gym. by @janene__m

What’s happenin’?Seasonal whiplash. But I don’t mind it one bit. As long as I get to fly? That’s what I like. 😜

We went up for an early sesh and sometimes you gotta wait til it settles down. Or on this day, to turn on. Must be September because instead of dropping layers, I’m fitted in head to toe down.🄶

It’s only been a week and I’m already feeling like it’s been a year. Love me some fall flying. I’m not ready to give up my favorite kind of days.šŸ¦‹
