Wonderful review of Lustearande in Beelden Magazine! Only one week left to see for yourself :-)! #lustwarande by @janericvisser

Lieke Mangindaan wrote a wonderful review about ‘Material Worlds’ @ Lustwarande for Metropolis M last Friday “noticing works that turn the ingrained relationship between man and landscape upside down”. About my work: “This also goes for the organic sculptures The Odes (2022) of Jan Eric Visser. The division between what is artificial or made by humans and what is natural, seems to no longer exist. The plastic sculptures seem to have grown organically, as if they have always belonged to the woods……….
Visser’s sculptures of plastic – a material that has invaded our landscape, bodies and art – showcase how human impact on landscapes and ecosystems ends up directly with us in an opaque, dark loop: we are also part of nature. To create the sculptures Visser recycled post-consumer plastics and re-used the same moulds to waste as little as possible material. The sinous objects showcase that people can be wrongdoer, victim, but possibly also the healer of their time”. On till 27 September!

Since 2022, Dutch Artist and GCC Active Member Jan Eric Visser @janericvisser has worked on a series of interconnected sculpture made of 100% post-consumer plastics diverted from landfill or incineration, exploring the new domain of circularity. Working in the test lab of a green-energy powered factory that recycles municipal waste plastics into a material fit for street furniture, he co-creates with the machinery.

The process yields fluid and dynamic sculptural lines that can be recycled over and over again. Each piece of the series is interconnected, with one sculpture used as a mould for the next. Thus avoiding the waste of moulds. The works celebrate circularity: nature does not waste.

You can see his work on display in the group show “Material Worlds” @lustwarande 2026 alongside eighteen other artists working at the intersection of formal sculpture, craft, traditional knowledge, recycling, and contemporary technology including Phyllida Barlow, Nicole Eisenman, Ugo Rondinone and Bosco Sodi.

Material Worlds is at Park De Oude Warande in Tilburg NL from 14.06-27.09

My outdoor sculpture group ‘The Odes’ as part of the international groupshow ‘Material Worlds’ @ Lustwarande 2026, Tilburg (NL). From left to right: Ode to the Future (200 x 100 x 103 cm), Ode on Transience (85 x 203 x 88 cm) and Ode to Beginning (92 x 77 x 70 cm). 📷Gert Jan van Rooij. “Jan Eric Visser (1962) is entirely nature - friendly. The ‘zero- waste artist’ never uses new material for his sculptures, but makes everything from recycled waste. Such as the discarded waste plastic he saved from the incinerator and transformed into a group of winding sculptures as an ode to circularity”. My outdoor sculpture group made of 100% post-consumer plastics as featured in the international groupshow ‘Material Worlds’ @ Lustwarande, Tilburg (NL) . The park here was flooded, trees died. Yet, nature will regenerate like the waste material of my sculptures. I’m pleased to share that I have once again been recognized as an Active Member of @galleryclimatecoalition!
To achieve Active Status I had to demonstrate that I had implemented environmentally responsible best practice in line with GCC.

I’m grateful to all of the co-founders and co-workers of GCC for their work and inspiration. Also,
I wish to encourage all my peers and colleagues to get involved so that I will not be the only Dutch Active Member again next year!

Preparing for my participation in the 15th edition of Lustwarande, Tilburg (NL), titled ‘Material Worlds’ from 14 June till 27 September next. Lustwarande is a renowned platform for contemporary sculpture annually organizing international exhibitions of contemporary sculpture at De Oude Warande park in Tilburg, the best-preserved Baroque woodland gardens in the Netherlands that looks like a maze. Here’s my spot alongside works of Patricia Ayres (US), Bosco Sodi (MX), Phyllida Barlow (UK), Yaïr Callender (NL), Nicole Eisenman (US), Meri Karapetyan (AM), Saad Qureshi (PK/UK) and Ugo Rondinone (CH) a.o. @lustwarande #mondriaanfund#cbkrotterdam#bradwolffpartners#letrangere_london by @janericvisser

The work appears as a folded body in space. Not a closed sculpture, but a sequence of planes that support one another just enough to remain upright. Everything appears provisional, as if the form emerged through leaning, adjusting, and repositioning. The surface is matte and worn. Light lingers rather than reflects; shadows retreat into the seams. From one angle the work reads as architectural—an abandoned support structure. From another it becomes almost bodily, with a protective posture. This shift keeps the image open. There is no clear front, no hierarchy. The sculpture does not ask to be read, but to be looked at. It presents balance as a temporary agreement—fragile, negotiated, and present. ©️cvdb
