I always love when I can go to a show in my neighborhood and just walk there and back, especially when someone I’m very friendly with is having a solo show. This one is called Liminal Rift.

Jane Sangerman at the Lower East Side’s Equity Gallery. These works layer acrylic, washes, archival digital print, even colored pencil and Flashe on canvas and panel, so the surface carries real depth, not just image but buildup. Her paintings work through tension: grids that hold for a second, circles that throw them off, color that keeps changing the terms. The work is exacting but never stiff, with movement and enough resistance to keep your eye engaged.
