Van te voren zou je kunnen zeggen dat het wat veel is om 9 grote glimmende keramieken stenen aan je muur te hangen in verschillende kleuren. Maar kijk even deze synergie; De kleur op de muur gecombineerd met al dat vakmanschap in kunst en meubels eromheen. I love love love it! Well done @moniquedesbouvrie! Heel erg trots om mijn werk zo te laten zien.

In de winkel van museum Beelden aan Zee vind je naast een groot aanbod aan boeken, kaarten en sieraden ook designartikelen, kleine sculpturen en keramiek.

Dit prachtige werk van Janice Jill bijvoorbeeld. Met deze serie wilde ze haar kenmerkende stijl laten opgaan in de omgeving van het museum. Zo kreeg elke kandelaar de zachte, organische vorm van stenen die in de loop der tijd door wind en water zijn gevormd. Afgewerkt met haar kenmerkende glanzende glazuur bevinden deze objecten zich ergens tussen gebruiksvoorwerp en sculptuur.

In the shop at museum Beelden aan Zee, you’ll find a large selection of books, postcards and jewellery, as well as design objects, small sculptures, and ceramics.

This beautiful work by Janice Jill is one example. With this series, she wanted her signature to blend with the surroundings of the museum, letting each candlestick take on the soft organic form of stones shaped by wind and water over time. Finished with her signature glossy glaze, these pieces balance somewhere between functional and sculpture.

A little change in the way I work 🤎

Until now, most of my pieces were available to pre-order. You would choose a piece you liked, and I would make it for you.

From now on, I’m changing this.

Instead of making the same pieces over and over again, I want to give myself more freedom to experiment — with shapes, colours, glazes and combinations I haven’t tried before.

I’ll be making the pieces that I feel excited to make, and once they’re finished, they’ll become available on my website.

This means that every drop will be small, limited and truly one of a kind. I’m planning to release a new selection every month, with pieces that won’t necessarily be made again.

A few years ago, a gallery owner called me because he absolutely loved my vases.

The only problem?

I’d never made a vase in my life.

I actually had to tell him exactly that.

Safe to say that conversation ended pretty quickly.

Ever since then, the idea has been sitting somewhere in the back of my mind.

So instead of doing my tax return today (which I really should be doing), I finally decided to give it a go.

She’s still soft, wonky and very much a work in progress, but I think she’s getting some oversized ears…

And I have a feeling she might end up with a few siblings. by @janicejillstudio

De nieuwste Garm Roll serie van Janice Jill is nu beschikbaar in Rotterdam ✨

De keramische reis van Janice Jill begon in India en dat is nog altijd terug te zien in haar werk. Diepe uitgesproken en soms felle kleuren die je daar op iedere straathoek ziet.

Daarnaast komen twee elementen altijd voor in haar werk: enerzijds de imperfecties die ontstaan doordat alles met de hand gemaakt is, anderzijds de dikke laag (glanzende) glazuur die deze imperfecties een podium geeft.

After finishing a series like this, there’s a strange kind of quiet.

You spend months working towards something, holding all these decisions, doubts, small discoveries… and then suddenly it’s done.

And it feels a bit empty.
Maybe even a little sad.

Weirdly enough, after a few days of cleaning up the studio, new ideas start to take shape.

This carousel is a selection of finishes, small discoveries during the process and colours I found myself drawn to —
and that I know I want to take further into the next series.

> Like the swirly black on the shiny brown that gives the stone a bit of a animalish print. Really want to see that in a bigger version and with different colours.

> Aubergine with pistachio 🥵

> This soft butter yellow just being buttery and perfect. Also the one with the light black dot pattern over it.

> The combination of matt versus glossy really has my heart. No doubt I will research that further.

> and last but not least. Having 80% of the work in a certain colour with a 20% other accent colour. Similar to the off white with the blue/warm red stone.
