Muistoja vuodelta 2025 / Memories from 2025.

20 Nov. Together with former fellow students at Aalto University, at the opening of the joint exhibition Slow Space by art education teachers.

10 Nov. An Advent calendar is a must—even as an adult. This year I found an extra-special treat calendar at Lidl.

29 Oct. At the end of Rogério’s “Itinerário” performance, the audience is invited onto the stage.

14 Sep. The Guggenheim Museum in Venice. I got to see numerous works by famous artists I had previously admired only in art books. The collection included Picasso, Dalí, Miró, Ernst, Magritte, Klee, Tanguy, and many others.

12 Sep. Venice. The photo says it all.

I visited the grave of the man who invented homosexuality. English text appears in the images.

FI // On kaunis loppukesän päivä Kerepesin hautausmaalla Budapestissä, jossa lepää lukuisia merkittäviä unkarilaisia poliitikkoja, tieteilijöitä ja taiteilijoita, joista tunnetuin kansainväliselle yleisölle on epäilemättä Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Károly Kertbeny 1824-1882 oli unkarilainen journalisti, kääntäjä ja ihmisoikeusaktivisti. Hän keksi sanat homoseksuaali ja heteroseksuaali — neutraalit vaihtoehdot aikansa loukkaaville nimityksille. Kertbeny itse sanoi olevansa seksuaalisuudeltaan “normaali”, mutta hänen päiväkirjamerkintänsä kertovat muuta. Hän eli ison osan elämästään paljastumisen pelossa, sillä homoseksuaalisuus aiheutti tuolloin vankeustuomion.

Infopisteen työntekijä ei ole varma tietääkö hän kuka Károly Kertbeny on tai sitten lausuntani on epäselvä. Hän etsii koneeltaan haudan sijainnin ja merkkaa sen karttaani Zsa Zsa Gaborin haudan ohella.

Suunnistan haudalle, sen etsiminen valtavalta hautasmaalta kestää oman aikansa.

Hautakivi on suhteellisen uusi, se on asetettu vuonna 2002 paikallisen homoyhteisön toimesta, sen jälkeen kun Kertbenyn hauta tunnistettiin edeltävänä vuonna. Kesäisin Kertbenyn haudalle viedään seppele osana pride-tapahtumaa.

MOMENTS

I treated myself to a little birthday gift this year: a synth.

For this video, I programmed a melody into the synth’s sequencer and mainly played around with the filter, waveforms, and delay.

I like experimenting with different scales and tunings. Here I’m using one of Erv Wilson’s Moments of Symmetry (MOS) scales. In a MOS structure, each interval is built from only two step sizes—“large” and “small.” In this case, I’m working with a scale containing steps of 122, 313, 504, 626, 818, and 1009 cents.

This mural I painted is part of Rogério Nuno Costa’s Condominium project, which focuses on the community of Miranda do Douro in Portugal, located along the border with Spain, and on its minority language, Mirandese.

The mural was painted on the wall of the Escola Básica e Secundária de Miranda do Douro. Footage by Joana Braga.

The Miranda donkey has historically played a central role in the region’s society. Although its use as a working animal has significantly declined, it is still cared for today as a gesture of gratitude toward the species.

Condominium (An Mirandés), a meeting-as-performance by Rogério Nuno Costa coproduced by Rota Clandestina in partnership with Miranda do Douro Municipality, AEPGA, Plano Nacional das Artes, and the Secondary School of Miranda do Douro. Image 1. Patiently separate grains of rice and lentils. I spent 2.5 hours doing the exercise; by the end, I had counted 2,089 grains of rice and 876 lentils.

Image 2. Write your name so slowly that it takes one hour to complete.

Today was dedicated to Marina Abramović, in the spirit of the Cleaning the House exercises.
