LA(te) post 🎥 LA trip august 2026 ☀️ rip david lynch LA REVIEW: love love love. re: improv in LA vs Villain - they have more money and more serious actors. villain has a better community and takes improv more seriously as an art form of its own, not as a stepping stone to scripted work. villain also swings way harder. LA improv is quite technical, which is impressive but rarely explosive. i saw incredible improvisers who didn’t employ physicality as a storytelling tool. also don’t get me started on those corny ass edits. 👏👈🏻👉🏻 the clapping and pointing edits serve their purpose in terms of clarity, but there are more elegant ways of making edits that maintain the illusion of a theatrical performance. when walking into The Groundlings, the vibe is CLINICAL. white walls, flourescent lighting, and an usher with a corny monologue. villain is way more homey, welcoming, and laid back. UCB Annex’s space was a dumpster fire. UCB Franklin’s space lacked character. the sunday ASSSCAT was top tier, enviable improv. imagine if they didn’t do those corny ass edits!!! the food was delish 😋 not as many hawt people as i expected 😢visiting lynch’s compound 🤯 it was a joy to drive around LA with all of its beautiful architecture 🏡 dusty pink houses will forever have my heart 💕 I 🖤 LA #freeshellymiscavige by @jannelyssantos

the hand of dionysus guided us through this most magical production ✨ there was some extra element in the room with us, something otherworldly, something divine. or perhaps it was the very reality of being a group of friends trying something new together. a real community taking on an exciting challenge. a community that spends 2, 3, 4, 5 nights together every week for 11 years IS the magic. shakespeare in the hands of improvisers is a match made in heaven. our instincts were on fire, new choices happening in real time, live inspiration in front of a live audience. only improvisers can do that so effortlessly. we’ll never get the respect we deserve from the theater community, but we don’t need it. we all know how magical we are 🥹 thank you @petermir for being my champion, and thank you to the whole cast for taking on this gargantuan effort 🥀 i hope i made you proud 🖤 A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Villain Theater August 15, 2026 Jannelys Santos as Helena 📸 : @theobserver_meli @wbenshi69 by @jannelyssantos

We only have TWO MORE NIGHTS left of our Summer Shorts Weekend at the Sandrell Rivers Theater! Presented in collaboration with Villain Theater, each performance features a new lineup of five script-in-hand readings, performed by a rotating cast with live music and one very memorable host. The lineup includes four new short plays by HOMEGROWN playwrights. This year, we welcome Jannelys Santos as Rhonda Sanchez, a fictional character created for the festival. Rhonda is our rhinestoned response to Florida’s defunding of the arts: a sharp-tongued, patriotic parody who brings satire, sparkle, and a side-eye to the stage. General admission is $25. VIP tickets are $40 and include up-front cabaret-style seating and a welcome drink: Rhonda’s Red, White, and Boozy. DONT MISS IT! Buy your tickets before we get banned! Proceeds support City Theatre’s Defunded Not Defeated fund.
