📍 Tag 7: Øvstebrufossen I Part 2

... A stop by the side of the road. We walk a few metres down a hidden path; the wet gravel crunches under our feet. The air is misty, and damp droplets settle on our hair and clothes. We hear the sound of rushing water. The gravel grows coarser and coarser. Through the moss-covered greenery, we look out onto a verdant rock face surrounded by wafts of mist. A waterfall seems to flow straight out of the mist, cascading down the steep rock wall...

... The small pitch at the harbour – At first, the whole scene seemed a bit out of the ordinary: the operator led us into the little wooden hut, which housed the ticket office and toilet facilities. We had to duck our heads to get through the narrow doorway, and stepped into a dark corridor lined with maps and photographs on the walls. After the glaring sunlight outside, our eyes had to adjust to the darkness for a moment. We continued into a small lounge, up to the low wooden ceiling covered with nautical charts, ropes, ship’s fittings and newspaper articles. Suddenly, we felt as though we’d been transported to another era. The owner told us to take our time looking around; there was so much to discover. Several thick photo albums depicted life at the harbour in summer and in the depths of winter, amidst ice and snow. What initially seemed a little gloomy turned out to be a wonderful little journey back in time, which stayed with us long after we’d left the little house by the harbour...

📍 Tag 6: Runde I Part 8

...After our hike, we’d actually planned to spend the night on the island. It seems we weren’t the only ones with this idea, as by evening the island was literally flooded with large white vehicles. So we went back a little way – all the way to a small, quiet harbour. Fishing nets were strewn everywhere here, and the colourful paint was flaking off some of the crates, cranes and markings, revealing the rust underneath. At the same time, the place seemed a bit deserted. Would it be strange to stay the night here? We thought about it briefly, then the owner showed us the spots around the small meadow by the harbour basin and we decided to stay on the spur of the moment.
In the evening, a few more campers arrived, along with some fishermen who gradually began preparing their boats. The sun was shining and, with not a breath of wind, the harbour panorama was reflected in the water....

... Secretly, we’d probably chosen this stop on our itinerary in the hope of seeing puffins here. The walk to the bird cliff was atmospheric, despite – or perhaps because of – the misty weather. Full of anticipation, we looked down over the slightly misty edge of the cliff at the moss-covered rocks. The wind whipped our faces – not a puffin in sight. We continued our walk along the wooden walkways, letting our gaze wander over the landscape. Little by little, we spotted a few of the island’s inhabitants, and with each new discovery, our disappointment at the absence of puffins faded....

📍 Tag 6: Runde I Part 3

On the way to bird cliff, we drove along some winding roads over the Rundebrua bridge to the island of Runde. The largest bird island south of the Arctic Circle – we were excited. Perhaps having been a little spoilt by the previous days, the grey sky, wind and light rain dampened our enthusiasm for the trip somewhat. But at the end of the short, narrow tunnel, the island’s landscape unfolded before us. True to the motto ‘There’s no bad weather, only bad clothing😉 ’, we set off. Passing small wooden huts with moss-covered roofs, we made our way up a narrow wooden path to the bird cliff. Once at the top, with a fair bit of wind in our faces, we looked out over the gloomy and misty landscape surrounding the island – indeed, it wasn’t bad weather at all, but somehow much more atmospheric than when the sun was shining. Our gaze wandered over the rocky cliffs, searching for the famous puffins...

- Black & white -

...We ended up here by chance. By chance, we got a pitch with a wonderful view, and by chance spent the evening enjoying a wonderful view of the water – we’d actually intended to stay at a different pitch that night. However, when we drove past, we didn’t like it, so we carried on through the village and ended up here after a while. Having a coffee with a view of the water, fishing boats and colourful houses on the shore, whilst a gentle breeze blows across our faces. We could certainly do with more coincidences like this 😆...
