☀️ Last week’s heatwave had its moments… 🧵🐾Sewing in the garden, sunshine overhead, and a dog keeping you company … not something you expect to say very often in the UK 😄A little reminder that when it does happen, it’s worth making the most of 💛Back to normal British weather now… but we’ll take that while it lasted!#SewingLife #GardenSewing #SunnySewing #JanomeMakes #UKSummer by @janomeuk

A little snippet of the work behind 80 little Edinburgh Mingle pouches 🧵🪡This was such a lovely way to use up scraps from curtain projects, upholstery work and my ever-growing dressmaking stash… although I’m slightly embarrassed to admit I’ve barely made a dent in it!I keep almost every scrap of fabric — some become lampshades, some are used as base cloth for upholstery and now, practical little pouches perfect for pencils, make-up brushes or all the mysterious bits and bobs that end up at the bottom of handbags.Every single one is completely unique and my @janomeuk HD9 helped me power through them.🤍If you were at the Edinburgh Mingle, I hope you loved the fabric combination you got!#mingle #sewingproject #sewersgonnasew #sustainablymade #scottishmakers by @janomeuk

It’s so so lovely to make something a little different and fun isn’t it? I decided today was the day to start a new ABBA outfit as obviously a girl can’t have too many can she? We #warringtonsuperstitchers and some other friends are going to an ABBA day disco next month so I thought I would get started on a new outfit using something from my stash - it’s shiny and stretchy and called computer foil fabric-silver that was on sale for £1 a metre from @poundfabrics in November. I bought 3m so hopefully I have enough for a top too although the full circles for the flares used a lot of material. I have some silver foil fabric somewhere so may use that for contrast. The pattern is one I bought a few years ago on Etsy and it makes up really quickly and easily on my @janomeuk Overlocker. I haven’t hemmed them as they hang really well and won’t fray. Loving sewing in the sunshine with ABBA gold as my background music today too by @janomeuk

Anatomy of a Sewing Machine… The Pressure Indicator Window, on the JANOME HD9 Professional 🧵The HD9 is built for serious sewing - high speed, heavy fabrics, long runs. And when you're pushing a machine that hard, presser foot pressure isn't something you want to guess at.The Pressure Indicator Window lets you see exactly what pressure the presser foot is applying, so you can adjust it precisely to suit whatever you're sewing through. You can:🧵 Increase pressure for heavy fabrics like denim, canvas, or upholstery🧵 Decrease pressure for lighter or more delicate materials🧵 Keep fabric feeding evenly without shifting, distorting, or dragging🧵 Dial in the right setting and see it clearly at a glanceIt's especially useful for:- Long straight seams on heavy or layered fabric- Quilting projects where consistent feed matters- Home decorating and occasion wear- Any project where fabric distortion would showOn a machine running at up to 1,600 stitches per minute, with a bobbin holding 40% more thread than standard, small adjustments like this are what keep everything running cleanly from start to finish. It's not a flashy feature. It's a precise one, and on a machine like the HD9, that's exactly the point!Have you ever adjusted presser foot pressure mid-project? What difference did it make? 👇#AnatomyOfASewingMachine #JanomeHD9 #JanomeUK #SewingFeatures #HeavyDutySewing #JanomeMakes by @janomeuk

Fix-It Fri-Yay! ✨Q: Why does my stitching look uneven, even when I'm sewing slowly?A: It's usually not your speed, it's your feed 🧵The feed dogs are doing the work of moving your fabric through. When something disrupts that, the stitch forms unevenly before you've had a chance to notice. Here are a few things worth checking 👉🪡 Your even feed foot - for layers or slippery fabrics, this is the one. It keeps everything moving together at the same rate so nothing shifts or bunches as you sew🪡 Your stitch length dial - is your length right for the fabric weight? Too short or too long and it'll show. Small adjustments make a bigger difference than you'd think🪡 Your needle - when did you last change it? A worn or wrong needle affects stitch consistency more than almost anything else. Fresh needle, fresh start🪡 Are you guiding or holding the fabric? Let go - the machine leads🪡 Is your fabric hanging off the table and pulling as it feeds?A gentle reminder:✅ Sewing slowly doesn't guarantee even stitches✅ One small adjustment can completely transform your finishSometimes it really is just a fresh needle and letting the machine do its job 😄What fixed it for you? Charity shop linen, stash fabric, and a song stuck in her head. This is the result 🎈🧵@new_by_helen made this balloon skirt inspired by 99 Red Balloons - the gathered silhouette, the coordinated ric rac, zip, and button, and the balloon details all attached with invisible thread so nothing distracts from the shape. A small technique that makes a real difference to the finish. No new fabric needed. Just a good idea, a well-organised stash, and a JANOME DKS100 to sew it all together cleanly. The DKS100 handles the kind of detailed work this make needs -precision stitching around the trims, consistent gathering, no drama.Have you ever made a project inspired by a song? Or do you have stash fabric that's been waiting for exactly the right idea? Drop it below!#JanomeDKS100 #StashSewing #MeMade #SewingInspiration #GarmentSewing #Regram @new_by_helen by @janomeuk

No zip. No buttons. No fastenings at all.@lupariasewing's Paloma Top gets its fit entirely from the construction - the pattern does the work so you don't need to fight with buttonholes or invisible zips. If you've ever had a facing disaster or spent 45 minutes on a zip that still looks off, this kind of design is genuinely satisfying to sew.Made in Liberty fabric, which means the stakes feel appropriately high, and the finish is worth it.Sewn on a JANOME - the precision matters when the construction is carrying this much of the fit.Would you sew a top with no fastenings? Or do you have a Liberty cut you've been sitting on waiting for the right project?#JanomeUK #JanomeMakes #MeMadeMay #LibertyFabric #GarmentSewing #SewingCommunity #Regram @lupariasewing by @janomeuk

Team Makes: Sewn at Midnight Gala 💃🏼Lauren's brief to herself: elegant, versatile, wearable again. She made a two-piece that works as a full gala look and comes apart as separates for everyday wear! The fabric choices do a lot of the work here. The bodice is Dior deadstock; it's a perfect black, structured, and genuinely beautiful quality. The skirt is triple crepe, chosen for its fluid drape as a deliberate contrast to the stiffness of the bodice. The pattern is the Petal Top and Bloom Skirt bundle by @dressmakingamore.A few things Lauren learned on this one: add boning to any strapless bodice, even if the pattern doesn't call for it. It makes a real difference to structure and support. And toile the bodice before you cut into anything precious. Fit is everything on a fitted piece like this 😉The hem was the satisfying bit. Metres of skirt, hemmed in seconds using a rolled hem on the AT2000D overlocker. Lauren says it's the best hem she's ever done. Hard to argue 🙈A huge thank you to @beesilva.events for an incredible evening 💖#JanomeUK #JanomeMakes #SewnAtMidnightGala #MeMadeWardrobe #SewYourStyle #Dressmaking #GarmentSewing by @janomeuk
