I turned 25 several months ago and considered the question “Are you your hero?” I thought about it and realized I’m not even close, but I am proud of how far I have come. I have almost quit countless times, I survived those thoughts and pushed on over and over again, and then I fought again, battling and I lost, and I lost again and I told myself to keep going, constantly being told to quit, constantly being told I was not good enough, constantly battling injury, and even having people close to me tell me to give up, but nevertheless staying on course. Then guess what started to happen?........ I started to win. In the scripture Matthew 17:20 says the “faith of a mustard seed can move mountains” and it’s true, as long as you never truly give up and you always maintain a little bit of hope you are not truly defeated, you are in fact Invictus; unbreakable, unsubdued, unconquered. I realized I may never be my hero. I may not obtain that, and that’s fine with me because it keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing.

Besides winning a championship and walking across that stage, in 2025 I also walked across the graduation stage officially becoming an Alumni of Queen’s University earning a Master of Science (MSc) from the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies (SKHS). This very significant accomplishment in my life would also not have been possible without such a great group of people including, academic supporters (both peers and supervisors), friends, and my loving family. To the PLAYS lab, I cannot begin to describe the positive impact you have had on me, both as a researcher and as a person. Thank you all for supporting me through my thesis, athletics, and life in general. I truly could not have accomplished any of this without all of you, and I look forward to reconnecting later in life. Furthermore, thank you to my supervisor, Dr. Luc Martin, your compassion, advice, and overall attitude are something anyone can look up to, and for that, I am deeply grateful to have had you as my supervisor these past few years. Next, to my friends, without the laughs, crazy catch phrases, and instances spent just enjoying time away from football and school, your role was significant and allowed me to not only detach but also kept my spirits up during hard times. You are all greatly appreciated and thank you. This is the first of a few appreciation posts recognizing what has been accomplished this year.
To succeed in anything in life what I have realized in my time on earth so far is that it is truly about the people around you/on your team that will ultimately determine your success as an individual. That is why I want to recognize and say a deep heartfelt thank you to all of the people in this post which includes my coaches, all the support staff, and my teammates for always having my back and believing in me. To my coaches without you none of this would have been possible and when I first committed here, I was told “this would be the best football experience of my life up to this point” and to coach Snyder and the rest of the coaching staff I can compellingly say you did not disappoint. To the support staff, you guys are often left in the shadows, and your work readily goes on behind the scenes but just know that your non-stop help and commitment to keeping us all healthy/ready to play is something I will forever be grateful for. And finally, to my teammates, you my friends are brothers for life and that brotherhood is truly what sold me on coming to Queen’s in the first place. The gratitude and appreciation I have for all of you for not only having my back but also voting me as one of your captains this year will forever be one of my proudest accomplishments as an athlete, because it showed me that I had gained the trust of all of you to help lead and represent this amazing team.
