I loved getting to hear stories from back in the day from Eric Ulner and others. The climbing in Illinois is pretty special. And while the rock plays a part, it's the people, past and present, that truly make it what it is. by @jaredharzan

Meet Cashew, the newest addition to the family.

He is a very quick learner and just the sweetest boy. He loves belly rubs and snuggles and above all else, food. I'm sure he will be a great companion for many years to come. I can't wait to take him out exploring the boulders with me.

We had talked for years about getting a puppy that Bear could train up. But eventually decided that Bear liked being an only dog too much, and he didn't want a puppy around him in his old age. But it meant with Bear gone the house was feeling too quiet and sad. Cashew has brought some much needed joy back into the house.

I'll admit I've cried more the last few days than I have the past few weeks. But I've also laughed more. That's just part of love and grief and life ever marching on. There's still a huge hole in my heart where Bear was. And Cashew doesn't fill that space. But it feels like all my emotions are just the growing pains of my heart expanding to make a new space for Cashew. by @jaredharzan

Bear passed away today.

It's a cruel fate that dogs can bring us such joy and love, but they live such short lives.

I loved him as much as any person, and his loss hurts like losing my best friend. We spent so very many days together hanging out or going climbing. He was always such a great companion. He was so expressive and complex, he often felt like another person to me. One who just sadly lacked the ability to form words.

He had a great ability to bring joy into this world. Everyone who met him out climbing seemed so happy to meet, pet, and cuddle him.

I'm a better person for having known him. And I'll always love him. by @jaredharzan

The Hideout in Kyparissi was the most unique place I've ever climbed. Pretty long via ferrata to get to a climbing wall in the middle of a seaside cliff, with a pretty tight belay ledge. It was neat. It was also pretty fun to look down from the belay and you're still a few hundred feet up from the ocean.

Just a few more days in Greece. We've been having lots of fun, but are also pretty excited we get to see Bear soon. by @jaredharzan

Last cold day of the season? @thisisericwiding working on Death Touch sit. Absolutely miserable looking holds the entire way through this thing.

Lens got dirty and I did not bring anything to clean it, so lots of flare.

Another great year of the Holy Boulders Comp. Big thanks to the @illinoisclimbersassociation and everyone else involved. I had a great time running around the boulders taking photos and cheering people on.

Every time I take the camera out I learn a lot. Last year I learned I needed better JPG settings, which I think I fixed this time around (0 edited photos, these are all straight out of camera JPGs!). This year I learned that my new lens has much shallower DOF than I expected and loves to grab focus on the trees behind climbers instead of the climbers themselves. Also, a new lens means a new perspective, and I need to do more scouting beforehand to find what looks good. But it's fun learning, and I'm excited and looking forwards to what I'll learn next time around.

GlenVegas Gambler yesterday out at the wonderful Lake Glendale. Hands down the best mountain biking in So Ill. I tried my hand at photography again. Still learning how to do biking photos, and there's lots more room for growth, but I had a lot of fun experimenting. by @jaredharzan
