“CIRCUS FIRE” By Jacques Lamarre Co-Conceived by Jacques Lamarre, Jared Mezzocchi and Rob Ruggiero SPRING 2026 Hartford, CT (Theaterworks Hartford) 🏆Winner of (Connecticut Critics Circle) *BEST ENSEMBLE Nominated for BEST PLAY BEST DIRECTION BEST PROJECTION DESIGN ———— A site specific performance about the 1944 Circus Fire that rocked Hartford and the state of CT. Performed at the Governor’s Foot Guard armory, this 12 person ensemble played nearly 100 roles exploring the days leading up to the fire, the fire itself, and the aftermath that took place. Weaving accounts from the families, the community, the circus workers and investigation, the text asked two central questions: “How do we move through grief when we cannot pinpoint blame?” “What’s our current responsibility to actively remember a tragic event?” The show kept extending to sold out audiences, with many survivors attending performances. A beautiful reminder that theater is most powerful at the local level. Telling local stories to its own community. An armory is quite tricky for design, tho! So cutting-edge tech put motion trackers on all our performers for live audio mixing, six projectors aimed up at the rafters and down at the stage, sculpting around an intricate lighting design… a true feat. The internal team at Theaterworks Hartford is also so special. Champions who delight in the innovative and experimental. I’m honored to call this place an artistic home. Being awarded Best Ensemble was the most appropriate recognition to get. It took a village led by 12 extraordinary storytellers. “THE MODERATE” By Ken Urban Winter 2026 Boston, MA (Central Square Theater) *CRITICS PICK, Boston Theater Critics Association* 🏆 WINNER OF (Elliot Norton Awards) *BEST NEW SCRIPT *BEST SOUND DESIGN *BEST SCENIC NOMINATED FOR -BEST ENSEMBLE -BEST PLAY -BEST DIRECTION -BEST LIGHTING -BEST ACTOR, LEAD -BEST ACTOR, FEATURED ROLE ————- I had the privilege of directing and designing the multimedia for Ken Urban’s new play THE MODERATE. We had one central actor onstage while 4 other actors performed live somewhere in the building and were projected through live-feed, in scenes performed in real time. It’s a play that takes place in the pandemic and centers around content moderating online. It’s a beautiful text, a haunting experience.. and oddly taps into a new nostalgia for some of our memories of 2020… a total privilege to direct. Also a new leap for me, as my first real production adding projection design back into my role as a director. Thank you to Emery Frost for expertly being at my side as video associate. It helped me understand the way to be directing: to incorporate my own multimedia intuitions into the rehearsal process like it *is* an actor in the ensemble. To champion making digitally-forward relationships, even our first day of rehearsal was over cameras - to identify the unique ways we love, care for, and behave when gathering in a site-specific space (online). It was particularly joyous to hop behind a computer to *show* my creative team a design impulse, instead of just explaining it. I felt a new form of collaboration in my artistic journey that I’ve never felt before, creating authentic synergy between the design team and the performers onstage. Congrats to all on the production. Woot! Tonight we open 73 SECONDS in a PLANETARIUM in the Lower East Side of NYC! Feeling really proud of building this tender piece over the last few years, with a team of brilliant artists. Huge huge thank you to @annehamburger (she finds the most amazing venues, yall!) and the entire team at @engardearts ! While the venue is spectacular, the piece is quiet. That takes an incredible amount of care in the design of it all. I feel so taken care of by this team, and I’m so excited to get to share it with you all over the next few weeks. It’s an hour of storytelling, using low-fi tech from the 80s, where I examine my relationship to the past, my family, and my mom. It’s a love note to the stars and back. Thanks to EVERYONE who believed in this project, and - by proxy - believes in me. I took a leap two years ago and left everything behind to fully commit to the freelance artist life once again. Not just in one lane, but as much of a multi-hyphenate as possible. I love making theater, I love blending form, and to be able to create from all aspects of the discipline is the dream come true. Tonight - I continue to feel so lucky. I’m surrounded by such inspired artists. Tix are limited! Hidden inside the Lower Eastside Girls Club @girlsclubny , a 64-seat planetarium built for stargazing becomes our stage. For 21 performances, En Garde Arts transforms this dome into an intimate space for storytelling with the world premiere of 73 Seconds, created, written, and performed by Jared Mezzocchi @jaredmezzocchi , directed by Aya Ogawa @ayagwa , an Obie Award–winning creative team. In 73 Seconds, Mezzocchi cracks open the quiet mysteries of his family’s past. What begins as a son’s attempt to understand his mother spirals into a decades-spanning excavation of memory, legacy, and the stories we inherit, and the ones we almost never hear. Hopping back on my socials for the ritualistic post into the digital archive of 2026 projects (limited tickets still available through Sunday night, if you happen to be in Boston) As we head into closing weekend in Boston at @centralsqtheater, I wanted to express my deepest gratitude to the cast and creative team of THE MODERATE by Ken Urban @kenurbanplaywright, produced at @centralsqtheater Rehearsing on stage from day one, this was a unique process from the get-go. The cast members were so inclusive of the creative team, allowing everyone to explore relationships and storytelling in highly abnormal circumstances. It was necessary. It was vital. It’s a dream of mine to have all members of the “band” involved in all rehearsals (technicians, designers, performers alike) so that we can learn how to jam organically instead of sequentially. Why stay silo’d when we can jam all together and make something no one anticipated? Thank you to all involved. I truly am so proud of this piece. It’s haunting, timely, forward thinking, and unlike anything I’ve ever worked on. Thank you for helping and advocating for each other to make what we made at the caliber we made it. Thank you for trusting me and this vision of not only the show itself, but the process as well. A divine dream come true.
