Today was the end of an extremely important chapter in my life. For nearly two years the ER has been my home, and the people have been my family. I have grown and been pushed more than I ever dreamed I was capable of. I have so many other ER nurses and doctors to thank for helping me become who I am today, and I will miss you all so very much! Tonight I was awarded St. Michaels 2023 Rookie of the Year Award for the Emergency Department. For those close to me, y’all know how long and hard my journey was to become an RN. There were many times I didn’t know if I’d even get here, and many times since I’ve started that I’ve questioned if I would be any good at this. Being an ER nurse is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but at the same time the most rewarding thing. Two years, it’s been two years now since I lost my papaw. Just three days before he passed I took this picture when he first arrived to the ER. So much has changed since this picture, so much I wish I could tell him about. Now I work in this ER. I’ve been in this room a hundred times. I know he would be proud of the way I treat my patients and the way I take care of people. He’s the one that convinced me I would be a good nurse. He’s the reason I decided to go to nursing school and now that I am a nurse all I wish I could do is tell him just to see the smile on his face. May 2022 is definitely not what I had in mind as a college graduation date when I graduated high school NINE years ago. There were so many obstacles along the way, sometime my biggest obstacle was me, sometimes it was just bad luck. But all those obstacles made this just that much sweeter! I couldn’t have done it without some amazing people supporting me. Can’t wait to start this next chapter. by @jaredoats807
