𝓁𝒾𝓈𝓉𝑒𝓃 𝓉𝒽𝓇𝑜𝓊𝑔𝒽 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝒻𝑒𝑒𝓉

Through the explorations of the @shooetoones project, I’ve been investigating the hidden soundworld of feet and shoes. ‘listen through your feet’ was presented as both a video/sound work and as an experimental performance in @alisonpyrke and I’s exhibition at Good Grief in April.

This weekend, ‘listen through your feet’ takes on a new form as an ensemble piece - a sensual score to read with the toes! As opposed to earlier explorations that amplify the ground with mic-ed up tap shoes, this ensemble version asks performers to play the sensations of surfaces as music notation.

I hope to give others the wonderful awareness of all the micro sensations and sound underfoot that I gained after a focused week of listening through my feet.

Hooray I’m officially a doctor of music composition! My practice-based project Knots that Bind: A Queer Investigation of Censorship and Silence through Experimental Opera passed with minor edits last month. I have so many people to thank, but first and foremost my incredible, insightful supervisors @cathope @devenishlouise and Iran Sanadzadeh. Thank you to all who supported me especially @darlenesmusicpage and my parents @lampertjo and @johnrguitars. And of course a huge thank you to all of the musicians and artists I was lucky enough to collaborate with over 4 years, especially the team and cast of Knots that Bind - @eloisegrillsartist Tina Stefanou, @lizjig @janeaubourg @niki.johnson.sound @darlenesmusicpage Iran Sanadzadeh and @alisonpyrke. This project changed my perspective on art, research and everything else, and I’m excited to continue exploring the world through music and research for many more years… by @jas.biz

Last night’s Shooe Toone workshop at @goodgriefstudios 🛼 primed with a series of prompts and provocations, participants led their own explorations, playing with percussion, friction, assemblage and gesture, they revealed a spectrum of sound from the soft to the cacophonous.

Towards the end an announcement from the youngest member captured the night, ‘I’m not a boy, I’m not a girl, I’m a shoe’ by @jas.biz
