Alma Mater… I hardly know ‘er!

Love you long time Loyola. You’ve taught me so much about myself and made me bloom into a beautiful version of the woman I’m striving to become.

Honestly, the past four years i’ve had my ass handed to me. There were many times I wanted to give up, felt burnt out, and didn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. Even though there were many nights of tears and studying until my eyes couldn’t read anymore… there were also amazing friends, family dinners, first apartments, and some gnarly parties. All my hard work has amounted to so much, academically, professionally, and personally.

From my hard work I’m able to say that I am a first gen graduate. I have been sent to represent my school at a national conference. I will have my name on published academic research. I will be continuing research with Loyno’s Criminology department. I am graduating with a double major. I am actively becoming a registered behavioral technician as I continue to work towards my dream of working in Applied Behavioral Analysis. I have met my future children’s tias and tios. My bridesmaids. My best friends. My city.

I am not sure where the wind is going to take me next. However, I take solace in knowing that because of these past four years I’ve been blessed to experience, I will be prepared for wherever life takes me next.

Wait i have a crazy story. During my graduation dinner I was telling my mom that I had a dream where I found my late grandfather’s old film camera and that it had undeveloped film still inside of it. I’ve been looking for this mystery film camera for years, this is not the first time i’ve had this dream. She looked around and I saw her face just kind of drop as the silence overtook her and the family directly surrounding us, like I had said something wrong. She told me that her graduation gift to me was that she did in fact find my grandpa’s old film camera and that she was pretty sure there was undeveloped film inside, it was being calibrated to make sure it was functional before giving it to me fully. Maybe i’m psychic lol, because there was never evidence of a missing camera I just had a feeling.

So here are the candids that by beautiful tia Suzie got of me finding all that out ( + some extras).

My grandpa Joe means so much to me. He was my greatest role model and I miss him every day. He sparked a love for knowledge and photography in me, and I know he would be proud to see me now. I am his favorite person, and he is mine. I’m glad I get to carry on a piece of him for the rest of my life to catch all the memories that he won’t be able to :) 🩶 by @jaslinmestas
