This year has been such a transformative experience!
The bittersweet moment of the end of this year of service has finally come. What a privilege it’s been to represent the Capitol City for the past year. Never did I imagine I’d compete in a pageant, let alone win. I’m so grateful for that fateful September evening that I stumbled upon the Miss America organization. My “Why” this year was deeply rooted in a desire to represent my culture in this space, with a large reason why I chose to compete being that I did not see any Punjabi-Sikh Americans. Being a micro minority often means you find a lack of representation in a lot of places. I wanted to change that in MAO. I’m walking away feeling a sense of pride, joy, and humility knowing I always shared who my authentic self was throughout my year.

Thank you @itsbrianna.ashley @stardust_starlet777 for being the most amazing sister titleholders. Bri, you have a heart of gold, I cannot wait to see you excel in life. Bea, I don’t know anyone as compassionate and loving as you, you inspire me to always be authentic. And LaNiya, your resilience makes me so proud of you, I know you’re bound to do great things. Thank you all so much 💗

@bkboparai @malkitsboparai @gurneel_boparai @gavin0012001 Thank you all for always being so supportive. There’s so much each of you have done for me, from Mom tailoring my entire Miss California wardrobe, Dad being my gym buddy at 6 AM workouts, Neel providing various events for me to attend, and Gavin hauling my pottery wheel to and from practices/ competitions. Thank you all so much💗

To Adam, Marissa, Tay and Cece. Thank you for making my first experience in pageantry so memorable. It has been such a fulfilling experience to serve my community and to represent my city on the Miss California stage. Thank you all for serving as mentors throughout this year and for being there whenever I needed. It’s people like you who make this space inclusive and welcoming, and for that I’m so grateful. 💗

And to anyone else I might be forgetting, thank you so much for being a part of my year. It’s been an unforgettable one. 🌷

Signing off
With Love,

5 weeks of work ➡️ shown in 20 seconds ✨
For my @misscaorg PPA auction basket I put a lot of thought into what I wanted to do. I landed on the idea of incorporating my love for pottery AND love for wildlife in a teapot set. This set features animals that are endangered, including:
• Bengal Tiger, ~4,500 left in the wild
• Asian Elephant, ~40,000 left in the wild
• White-Handed Gibbon, Exact number in wild unknown, status: Endangered
• Red-Crowned Parrot, ~1,000-2,500 left in the wild
Aptly named “Steeped in Conservation”, the basket featured all kinds of tea-time materials, including a Moringa Citrus Mint Loose Leaf tea from @gibbonconservationcenter @teasforwildlife !! I’m overjoyed that the basket sold at the auction!

Excited to share I got accepted to McGeorge School of Law! 📚
I got the call from Admissions- I kid you not- 30 minutes BEFORE Law School Orientation!! I can do a whole storytime on the unforgettable rollercoaster that was my admissions process. A huge thank you to the admissions team at McGeorge for making my law school dreams a reality. All of the experience rushing around backstage during Miss California week kicked in and I found myself arriving at orientation processing the fact that I GOT IN !!!! I’m so excited to put all of the scholarships I’ve won through the Miss America organization towards my legal education. Go Tigers! 🐅

Orientation was filled with lots of great moments, from an amazing swag bag with a McGeorge branded shirt, hat, mug and more! But the highlight of today was meeting all the amazing people who make up the Class of 2028 ❤️

He’s the one who gave me this talent so He gets all the credit 🙏🏽
•
Preparing for my talent took months of training to not only throw within 90 seconds but to throw bigger as well. Seeing as wheel throwing had never been done on the Miss California stage before, I had to map out all the logistics and prep for every possible scenario, in case production couldn’t accommodate my props. Everything, from the outfit to the audio track, was planned meticulously, so that I could portray the story of who I am as best I could through my art.

I was even able to share my culture and roots through this talent, explaining how, as a Punjabi Sikh, I was taught the value of seva (selfless service), and how that deeply connects to the pieces I make.

I’m so grateful that my untraditional talent graced the stage not once but twice, on preliminary and finals nights. To anyone reading who does not have a “traditional” talent and wishes to compete, let this be your sign: your talent can and will be recognized! ✨

Though Waheguru is the one I give all the credit to, @natqdance played a major role in bringing my talent to life for state, thank you! 💞

The Komagata Maru incident may have taken place in Canada, but its message transcends borders.
In 1914, during a time when India was under British rule, 376 brave souls, 351 of them Sikhs, set out for Canada with hopes of a better life. Though they were considered British subjects, they were not granted the same freedom to move across British territories.

One man, Gurdit Singh, chose to defy the injustice of the Continuous Journey Regulation, a law deliberately designed to exclude immigrants of Asian origin. He chartered a ship, the Komagata Maru, which he renamed the Guru Nanak Jahaaz, and set sail with hundreds of passengers to Vancouver. When they arrived in May 1914, the Canadian government refused to let them disembark. For two months, the passengers remained stranded in the harbor, denied food, water, and dignity.

Despite having valid documentation, enduring a nighttime attack by police, and facing starvation, they were ultimately forced to return to India. Upon arrival in Calcutta, they were met with violence. British forces opened fire on the passengers, killing 22 and arresting over 200. Gurdit Singh himself was imprisoned for five years.

The Komagata Maru incident is a powerful reminder that the presence of South Asians in North America has not come without struggle. I mourn the lives lost, those who dreamed of freedom, only to be punished for their hope. Wanting a better life is not a crime.

As a Sikh American, I carry this history with me, not as a weight, but as a call to action: to honor those who came before us, to treat others with dignity, and to always choose inclusion over exclusion.

Can’t believe I placed TOP 12!! Congratulations to @rachelnaxt for becoming our Miss California 2025 🫶🏽

I’m so happy to have placed as a semi-finalist, especially since I didn’t even know a thing about pageantry 10 months ago. I walked away with something more precious than my @caltrophy559 trophy (sorry Adam 😬): friendships, lessons, and so much love. You hear it all the time, the “sisterhood” in pageantry. As someone who’s new to this world, I felt like that was just something people say to sell you on the experience. But from the moment I joined my local organization, I quickly learned that these girls have so much love to share. Sure we’re competing against each other, but the relationships we share last a lifetime, much longer than any crown.
•
I shared my culture in just about every phase of competition. Post prelims I questioned if I was “too cultural”. But walking into visitation hearing my crown sisters and their friends and families tell me how moved they were by my authenticity made me realize that I was not “too much” of anything. I’m grateful to be a part of an organization that allows me to shine as my most original self.
