The most recent episode of Kaytlin Bailey’s podcast The Oldest Profession is about my grandmother, Shirley Cavanaugh. While I knew this podcast was coming out … I was absolutely not prepared for it. I am fresh from so many tears. All I’ve ever wanted for grandma Shirley was for her to be seen honestly, courageously, and respectfully. @kaytlinbailey and @oldprosonline truly brought my grandmother to life in a way that honors and cares for her story and my family. I’ve never been prouder. ❤️🥹😭☂️

I’m super happy with this design. Like, it’s calm, it’s loving, it’s got a classic Pittsburgh reference. It’s “House Histories of Pittsburgh.”

It’s perfect and I’m proud of making it.

“So…” 😳 “…where did THAT title come from?”

It took me a while, it’s kind of a mouthful, but it’s settled. My next book regarding Pittsburgh sexworker and brotherly history will be called “Four O’Clock This P.M. Will Find ALL Disreputable Women OUTLAWED.”

This line is a VERBATIM headline from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette in 1892 when the Mayor, the police, the safety department, and some priests all thought the best way to deal with sex work is to force nearly one thousand women into cold homelessness in the middle of winter.

So the title is a mouth full? Good. I hope it sticks out. I hope EVERYONE learns what happened to these women.
