I tried to share a few of my favorite clips from our D+ series but the algorithm flagged it for copyright. so here are a few favorite moments. huge props to everyone who worked so very hard on this series. it's taken a few years to recover from losing the series in the 'content purge' that removed hundreds of hours of shows, which felt a bit like wiping out before we even had a chance to stand up. that said, the process of creating a heart-felt documentary series about surf-culture, that explored deep themes like community, living multi-cultural, losing loved ones and rebuilding after disaster ... will be an experience I will keep with me forever. life, death and the whole thing, surfing keeps us connected. go get some waves. by @jasonbaffafilms

A quick visit Saturday to the 2026 SD @boardroomshow | What a joy to chat with so many old friends and also make a few new ones. I left feeling proud and inspired to be a small part of this amazing and creative community of crafts people | Congrats to Scott Bass for putting on another great event. And wow, bravo Matt Calvani aka @bingsurfboards for winning the Icons of Foam shape-off honoring Maurice Cole. I spent many hours talking story in Matt's Hermosa bay while he shaped for Phil Becker. I'm gonna have to take my Calvani Raven out for a spin. Stoked for you, bro! 🤙 by @jasonbaffafilms

So fun to spend a sweltering day with @connercoffin and @kimi_swimmy fishing our local channel on the Island Fox with the good people from @costaeyewear and @bureo ... it was really inspiring to hear the work Bureo is doing with Net Plus to recycle used fishing nets and reuse the material to make Kelly's boardshorts, @patagonia puffers and Costa's 'Untangled' frames. We didn't get the bite we were hoping for but how lucky am I to call this work!??? 😎 taken in Channel Islands (California) by @jasonbaffafilms

Okay, so why am I making an animated Arnold series???

Because I’ve wanted to for years.

The harder answer is that I never really had the budget (or the infrastructure) to build something like this independently.

I know there’s a lot of debate around AI and filmmaking right now, and I understand why. These tools raise real questions about authorship, labor, and where the industry is headed.

For me, though, this wasn’t about replacing a crew I had the money to hire.

I didn’t.

It was about finally having a way to tell a story that had mostly lived in my head.

I’ve spent most of my career working with cameras, actors, editors, sound, practical production, and all the usual filmmaking tools. This project still relies on all of that thinking: writing, directing, performance, timing, editing, sound design, shot choices, and a ridiculous amount of trial and error.

The newer tools simply gave me access to a kind of production I couldn’t previously afford.

So yes, ARNOLD: EARTH RULER SUPREME is fully independent.

Partly by choice.

Partly by necessity.

And, increasingly, because like my surf films, I’m interested in what becomes possible when a filmmaker can stop waiting for permission and just start building.

Here’s a little look behind the scenes.

So… I made an Arnold cartoon.

It escalated.

A scene from ARNOLD: EARTH RULER SUPREME — an unofficial animated satire I’ve been quietly building over the past few months.

9.8.2026 | Oh yeah, for a few hours malibu turned into Cape St. Francis.

Oh my. Hurricane Marie 2.0 | Link in Bio. Nephew Conner Coffin on what @stab submitted for a wave of the swell! ...

All I know is that every guy running down the beach going back for more had a shit eating grin. It was burly and wild. This one end section was shallow and heavy. Check that lip thickness. He pin dropped another one and I thought for sure he broke his board. Fun to watch the Con man threading the needle. I like mini's angle to really see the wave but you can feel the mana on this close-up. I told him that if he didn't finish the rest of his waves, I'd leave. 😂 He laughed. Ran a half mile. Stuck the next one clean.

The waves posted outta Newport are unreal. But sunday in the 805 looked like Namibia. And I've been to Namibia. So I can say that. Wuzzza 💥

Hurricane Marie 2.0 | Lots of footage to go through but after seeing so many hurricane posts, here's a little wink at my two days from Hurricane Marie. Epic 74 degree swim to balmy rainy kegs with my nephews. I snuck in a few surfs between the fray and a body surf at Summers I'll never forget. The sunset says it all. Gotta love California. Gotta love the 805. We are blessed 🙏
