A prayer for the discarded:

To the abandoned
the castaways
the freaks
the queers
the mistaken
the forsaken
the disowned
the feared

the others

may we know our value
may we see our beauty
so that others may see it too
may we be treated with tenderness
even when we are rough

GRAND PRIZE WINNER

“Gathering Place” by Jason Lord
On display at The ROB

“Gathering Place” is a site-responsive installation that activates and reactivates perceptual connections through formal elements, embodying a temporary and unfixed nature. The work incorporates mixed-media drawings, photographs, collages, sculptures, and materials found during my daily walks. The installation changes daily, with one piece added, and one piece removed from a rotating collection of materials. Much like a daily walk, where following the same route will not provide a constant perceptual experience, “Gathering Place” is in a constant state of flux. Some of the objects displayed were gathered and assembled here in Lake City. by @jasonearllord

Almost finished.

Grid, we had an intense summer fling, but all things must end. I drew you a lot, grid, alone and with new friends, and I took your picture and cut you out of magazines and knotted and sculpted you and made you invisible and then visible again. Oh the deconstruction we had! I’m glad we can still be good friends. We’ve known each other for so long. I have grown and you are still a monolithic visual structure and, well, see you around.

My exhibition of drawings and objects, The Indeterminate Geometry of Wandering, opens in Carrboro at @attic506 in two days on Friday, September 10th, and will be open from 1-4 on Sa 9/11, Su 9/12, Fr 9/17, Sa 9/18, Su 9/19, Fr 9/24, and Sa 9/25.

The show is a room installation of my physical, mental, and spiritual exploration over the past months, field notes on display in a space ruled by lines and monochrome. If you’re in the area, please come on by to say hi, check out the other works presented in @myroom506 , @slugspace , @aacciiddrraaiinn , and @theconcernnewsstand.

I will have selected works for sale to support both my future ventures and @drawingroomnc who made this work possible. taken in Attic 506 by @jasonearllord

Many thanks to the beautiful humans at @hambidgecenter for inviting me to participate in an open studio last week, where I stayed in the perfect Brena studio/cabin and continued some of the work I started there over two years ago. The other residents were a delight, as were the numerous visitors who braved Isaias wind and rain to come out on Saturday.

Autumn leaves, pins

I had some 2x2s in the van so I had to make a little studio hut/altar/desk thing, where I could hang some tools, dry some botanicals, and rig up a backlit, painted paper screen.

Much of my three work days were spent foraging and making a few inks from goldenrod, pokeberries, and rust.

Whatever I do in the studio, I am always sort of drawing.

I spent several days thinking about webs after I bisected one with my face and came eye to eye with a Joro spider.

If you put a couple drops of rust in the goldenrod ink, it turns this beautiful minerally green

So I painted and drew and printed with leaves on this beautiful masa paper, which I love because it is translucent but also super durable.

Studio kitchen alchemy. Many thanks to @heartofloveland for gathering some goldenrod for me before my arrival!

This was the first joro I saw, about 30 feet above me.

Brena has a baby grand! Being terrible at things has never kept me from doing them. 🖤 by @jasonearllord

There are a lot of different kinds of objects in my exhibition, Syllabary, at Pullen Arts Center right now, but today I want to tell you about my Void Prints.

Thanks to @raleigh_arts for the space and support for this show.

The inked shapes on the bottom shelf were laser cut from MDF.

For the past seven years, my work has been routed in the Dérive, my regular wandering around, exploring the city without a specific goal other than an enjoyable walk that yields a particular and vital kind of paying attention that I can’t quite seem to muster otherwise.

One thing that happens on these walks is that I find objects in the road, on the grass, in a ditch.

For a time, the objects have become part of the landscape. Some have been there for years and others mere days, hours maybe. And then I move them into my care.

I often use these artifacts in my work, in various ways and for various reasons.

Sometimes they become sculptural icons.

Sometimes they become three-dimensional maps that hang on the wall.

Regardless of its final destination, whenever I take the artifact, it leaves a void in the landscape.

I have many of these objects and I sometimes enjoy arranging them into new relationships.

For my Void Prints, I traced this array and transformed it into a vector file. Or more likely @melissastuttsart did, or Taylor!

With support from @mccollcenter folks, in this case Taylor Lee, I laser cut the outlines from a thin board in order to make a nesting place for my objects.

Nesting junk babies.

The shapes I removed from the board were the voids, like the voids the objects left in the landscape in the moments I took them from the ground.

With more support—this time @adrian_rhodes —I used the void pieces to create print matrices to make the Void Prints with the etching press.

There are six available in the exhibition, which closes at the end of the day on October 25th.

This print, Counterform 6, has a collage/drawing element and is 18” x 24”. It’s on Rives BFK and mounted on a birch panel. Thank you to @doriskapner for making me print on nice paper ❤️

Counterform 5, also 18” x 24” on Rives BFK on birch panel.

Best seen in person. Hope to see you at the cl taken in Pullen Arts Center by @jasonearllord

i’ve been sorting through the pixelated mounds of documentation from a productive couple of years and am just now fiddling with some video footage from A Tender House of Echoes, my site-responsive prototopian hermitage I made over the winter at @mccollcenter and where I perform the roles of cleric, artist, laborer, and archivist, the structure transforming to accommodate each role and its particular tasks.

Thanks to @mrlo__ for helping me get this footage. by @jasonearllord

A few small works made at @triangleprintmakers monotype workshop with @inkedplate yesterday.

Check out their website and sign up for the newsletter for future offerings. I think this new venture beautifully complements the great things that @super_g_printlab is doing in Durham.

It’s been a really busy summer and I’m grateful to have lots of work out in the world right now, especially here in the Triangle!

Please check out my solo show, Syllabary, through @raleigh_arts at Pullen Arts Center in Raleigh, now through October 25th.

Also in Raleigh, FRESH! The biennial community art show hosted by @artspacenc .

In Durham, the beautiful @holdingspaceartshow at @durhamartguild Truist Gallery, curated by @ash_lorusso and @blythe.creative .

Over at @durham_tech you can see the AFA Alumni Exhibition featuring 11 artists in the D. Thomas Jaynes Art Gallery.

At the edge of Carrboro and Chapel Hill is everyone’s favorite li’l gallery and shop, @peel_gallery , where I am just changing out my flat file drawer with new work!

The Richardson Family Art Gallery is managed by Wofford College’s small-but-mighty Art and Art History Department in Spartanburg, SC.

Come Out and Play is a community-oriented annual sculpture show out at JimGin Farm in Pittsboro.

Syllabary has many sculptures, monoprints, drawings, paintings and assemblies for sale. Pullen does not take a commission, so things are priced pretty reasonably.

Speaking of huge group exhibitions and showing with friends: FRESH! is up in its current incarnation through October 18th. This is Shape Shop III.

Holding Space: the Art of Care runs from September 18th through November 29th with a reception and artist talk on October 16th. Excited to be showing with some dear friends! This 36” x 48” painting, Particle Density, and another of the same size, Alley 27. Both on wood panel.

In 2019, I took my first in-person art class since the seventh grade over at Durham Tech—wood sculpture with Ben Lock. Here is a photograph of some wood sculptures, Pantheon, I made a couple years later. This show runs from September 21st through November 13th.

Please go buy this wee mixed media drawing or something else at PEEL—there are so many lovely things, and if we want our beautiful local businesses to stay afloat, we need to caress them with our dollar bills from time to time.

If you’re in around Spartanburg, SC, please check out Reject the Null curated by @annie.heisel.art at @woffordcollege_aah … by @jasonearllord

Data Center with Exit Sign, 2026
Site-responsive installation

modular furniture, painter’s tape, gaffer’s tape, mixed media drawings on paper and birch panel, vinyl, letterpress prints, poplar, pine, balsa, acrylic, latex, found objects, scavenged notes, studio tools, cutting mats, metronome, headphones, magnifying glass

I’m grateful to have my work included in Reject the Null at Wofford College now through mid-December. This exhibition, curated by @annie.heisel.art , assembles the work of four artists working through various research methodologies: Annie herself, @_k.re.ate_ , @scottcarter.art , and me in the gorgeous Richardson Family Gallery. I admire the work and practices of these artists and encourage you to come see this show if you find yourself in the gravity of Spartanburg.

Also included is my single-channel video, Particle Man (Dissipates). Both works center documenting the passage of time, both using shifting shadows as their baseline. In the gallery, I outlined migrating shadows in both morning and early evening as the beginning of my floor drawing

Thanks also to @chloed.kaylor and @michaelwebsterstudio for their hospitality by @jasonearllord
