Phrasing on your voice/instrument. Thinking about how you're going to start an idea, but also where and how you want to end it. #reels #reelsinstagram #jazz #masterclass #lesson

Some clips from a wonderful masterclass I held at Long Beach City College with over 60 applied music majors. I really enjoyed getting to dig into some of my concepts and engage in some thought provoking discussion with these bright young minds. taken in Long Beach City College by @jasonfabus

You can now hear three of our songs from our latest album with the Trio on @siriusxm radio's "Siriusly Sinatra" channel 70. This is one of the finest vocal jazz stations across the globe, paying tribute to the Chairman of The Board himself Frank Sinatra as well as highlighting new vocalists that are carrying on the tradition.

Now playing:
"But Not For Me"
"Embraceable You" feat. @gretjeangell
"When You're Smiling"

Had a very enjoyable masterclass with the students at the @umlmusicoutreach at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Topics covered were thinking more like a vocalist or pianist, playing simple ideas throughout your entire horn, improvising, call and response, and a Q/A about being a professional musician in Los Angeles. I'm grateful to the program for having me, and even more grateful to the students for bringing the curiosity and positive energy. Oh yeah, and it was Fun Hat Friday... by @jasonfabus

Summertime, and the Living is Easy... #reels #reelsinstagram #jazz #saxophone #goodmorning

Messing around with different key centers on the tune "Easy Living" (1937) composed by Ralph Rainger. A rather tricky melody that's worth studying. And yes, it's a little toasty in New York City these days. by @jasonfabus

Random videos from my phone that somewhat capture the five amazing weeks I spent in Berlin, Hamburg, Prague, and the Netherlands. I tried to be better about taking photos/videos along the way, but I'm still not great at it. Leo's be Leo-ing. by @jasonfabus

An amazing start to my trip with a week and half of gigs in Berlin, Germany. This was a lil snippet of our show at @bflatberlin with an amazing band. The concert was followed by a jam session that was packed full of terrific musicians from all over the world, playing our music from America. Truly beautiful.

It all started with a sign...
.
.
.
I remember crossing paths with a fine young man, Cameron Wilson a few years ago, when I met him at a local bar in Morro Bay while passing through on a road trip. He told me the good news that he had just signed the contract to secure the purchase of the @bay.theatre, a historical 1940s movie theater in town.

I mentioned the idea of wanting to bring my Trio up to the central coast to record, because I loved the idea of escaping the big city for a few days and collaborating with my friends. Morro Bay seemed like the perfect place.

He then told me that his father has a buddy in town who built his own professional recording studio and that I should reach out to him. Getting to know and work with Rob Vermeulen at @robbomusic studios was an absolute pleasure, and his patience and guidance was a key to making this album a wonderful recording. In just two delightful 4-hour sessions, we managed to track 14 songs.

Another key to this album's success was having the beautiful voice and phrasing of @gretjeangell on three of our vocal arrangements (tracks 6, 10, 12).

As always, I have to express my deepest gratitude to my guys, Shane Savala on guitar and Brian Ward on upright bass. This Trio simply does not exist without their sound, connection, leadership, and collaboration that we've built over ten years of gigs, tours, and albums. And their wonderful friendships make it even sweeter when we can go have some fun exploring the town after our work is done.

I am very proud to present to you all our third studio album "In Their Domain" by the Jason Fabus Trio. This album has us returning to our roots -- thoughtful and tastefully swinging arrangements of American standards from 1920-30 and in the public domain. Each contrifact melody and arrangement is hand crafted by the members of this group.

We hope this album brings a lighthearted and positive outlook on our world moving forward. Let us keep our family and friends and community safe and strong, and not be broken down by larger stresses that are seemingly out of our control. Spread kindness.

Love to you all,

✌🏼 Jason Fabus
