Oh Shenandoah. Playing this song and the like usually makes me feel better. Also, Charlie Haden has an incredible version if you’ve never heard it.

Had an hour to myself this afternoon and got a chance to mess with some synths and such.

Spring is coming and so is new music from me.

About a year and half ago, I developed tinnitus. It began on the very first show of a production that I’d literally dreamt of being a part of…ironic, no? It wasn’t because of the show and it wasn’t the stress of the previous year. It was everything all at once and it hit me hard. My tinnitus resembles the sound that one hears when watching a war movie and a bomb has gone off close to the main character. I felt terrified and devastated.

Lack of sleep, hypersensitivity to this new sound and a feeling of dread affected me for months. Unsure if I’d be able to continue as a musician, I sought different forms of self expression. My dad, @proverstan_slp , is an incredibly talented painter as was his dad, Lester. So I figured I’d try my hand at it and these are some of the results… a therapeutic process.

For whatever it’s worth, I still feel somewhat lost at times and can often feel defeated. The music business/scene can already be isolating even with all of its talk of community. That being said, tinnitus and the stress it causes have become infinitely easier to handle. If you ever find yourself dealing with, please know that you’re not alone and it’s not the end.

Anyways, enjoy a handful of these paintings.

p.s. please be nice to one another. The world is difficult enough.
