I think records get made well before the first downbeat of a session.

They get made through communication. Through participation. Through trust.

Trust that everyone involved is pushing each other to give as much as they can. Trust that you can take a risk, change your mind, ask a little more of someone, pay attention, and be careful with what’s been handed to you.

Sometimes that kind of trust is built over a lifetime. Other times, you feel it within a few minutes.

Either way, by the time the first note is played, the record has already started.

WORK IN PROGRESS / 01

The first few days are mostly listening.
Getting to know the recordings.

Learning where the songs pull you.
Trying things, taking them away, following a few ideas just to see where they lead.

Not really looking for answers yet.
Just trying to understand what the record is asking for. by @jasonrostkowski
