Multiple episodes of right anterior shoulder dislocations/subluxations for the last 10 years and two of which happened while I was dancing in BDC and Ripley. New onset osteoarthritis of the bilateral knees probably secondary to over use after intensives and three back to back classes on Sundays. A lot of struggles, from exhausting clinic tasks and cases, sleepless nights from anxiety, major break up from a long-term relationship and so many more. In all of these Dance has been my best friend, my stress buster, a vortex that swallows all the negative energy that’s consuming me from within. I never imagined that despite all the hurdles after 7 years, dancing would pave the way for me to be back on the stage again.

This NYC journey will never be complete without dance. I’ve always told my friends I came in for the dance, not for people but ironically a lot of my close friends are the ones I share the dance floor with. I guess the mutual affinity towards a cohort of the same energy is just too strong. I am forever grateful to the people I shared this journey with. To the teachers especially to my sensei @misschionyc for the opportunity to be a part of your masterpiece. To my friends whose cheers and support always fueled my performance in classes and in our showcase. To The Dolls, it’s an honor to have shared the same stage with you.

This year was so unforgiving, it felt like a curse that consumed my whole being. February was sweet and then March appeared and embraced and summoned us to the darkness. My parents and brother’s family was in Elmhurst, NY (aka ground zero). The rest of the family in General Santos and I was left alone in Manila on the frontline of this pandemic. June came in with a visage of meekness and intellect covered with attraction seeking for comfort, least I know it was bomb ready to explode. July crushed my heart when someone so dear and close to me passed away. My journey to becoming a doctor would have never been complete if you didn’t allow me to be an “Ama/Daddy/Tatay”/Senior/Intern/Co-performer. Miss na miss ka na namin anak at hanggang ngayon nangungulila pa rin kami sayo. I thought it wouldn’t go any further but August devoured all of me and brought me to the deepest of my hurts, my goals were failing, my motivation was dwindling, my heart was breaking, my sanity was at stake, my world was poisoned with so much lies and deceit and yet....people are dying, families are crying and the economy is crashing. I did hope for a better September and somehow it did lit a small flicker of warmth and goodness in a place so hopeless and depressed.

On the last year of my 20s I just wish to forget everything that caused us pain - the struggles that made us unrecognizable even to our own self. I wish to move on in a different dimension devoid of hurt, hatred, disease, helplessness and selfishness. I wish that everyone’s needs be met and that people’s satisfaction improves midst being in debt. To live, to breathe, to rest without worrying of the people I care for. To embrace, to feel, to be with the people who loved me and whom I loved. To be resilient, to recover and to reignite the passions we all were fighting for. I wish to fly, to soar, to chase the dreams I’ve longed for. Today, I wish that whatever small hope is left, may it burn bright in time and turn all ashes into insignificant dust. And we will move on to the next chapter, stronger, better and bolder.
