I don’t usually post these kinda things. It’s church, the churren, & once a quarter a proof of life photo of myself 😅.

Quick story: I’m the worship director at my church, & we rehearse on Thursdays, however, Thursday was my Mom’s birthday & she was promoted to heaven, Nov. of ‘22. So, #Iykyk

I’ll be honest—I considered canceling rehearsal.

This year already felt different. My daughter’s in college, my sister lives in “outer space,” and this was the first year we weren’t all together to celebrate my mom. I was adjusting to a new norm while simultaneously carrying the weight of missing the old one.

And yet…I decided to show up.

Not because I wasn’t hurting, missing my mom, or need the time but because I had an assignment.

So I went to rehearsal & I did what I was called to do.

At the end of rehearsal, after I finished praying, my team surprised me with “flowers, cards, & candy” *Usher’s voice* in honor of my mom. 🥹🧡

I walked in carrying one kind of weight & walked out carrying something completely different.

Here is your encouragement: Sometimes, obedience is heavy but you never really know what’s waiting for you on the other side of it.
Maybe you’re tired, stretched thin, grieving something. Maybe life has changed and you’re still trying to adjust to the new version of it.

And sometimes, yes, you need rest. You need to make room for yourself but you need true wisdom, accountability, & the Holy Spirit to know when…

Because you don’t wanna confuse being tired with being excused!

If God has given you an assignment, don’t abandon it simply because this season feels heavy. Don’t forge his signature on your “absence excuse note”!

Push through when He tells you to. Rest when He tells you to. But whatever you do, let God determine whether you’re excused.

There is something on the other side of your obedience that you can’t see yet. Sometimes the blessing isn’t in the assignment itself. Sometimes the blessing is waiting on the other side of you finishing it. You don’t know what God has waiting for you.

Dear KaMiah, Today is your first day of class as an official college student & I could not be more proud of you!! I know you’re going to do an incredible job & make a difference! It’s been a joy watching you walk life’s journey. Although you’ve left the nest, know that I am always here… just say the word!

You’ll learn a lot on your own. Some easy lessons. Some hard. You will have bumps in the road, but remember obstacles come to better equip you not to harm you! Fall. Learn. Get Up. Be Better. Also, remember you have a family & village who will pray for you, cheer for you, & ride for you all at the same time! You got a lot of love covering you!

Bible teaches us to train up a child in the way that he should go & when he gets old he won’t depart from it. I have no doubt that I’ve trained you well. You’ve watched me go through things & bounce back! Every! Single! Time! As a teen mom, it was not easy but you were so worth it. You are the best example & manifestation of Roman 8:28 in my life! And I’m grateful to God. It has been a honor to be your mother!

I Love You KaMiah Simone! Always your first intercessor, biggest supporter & loudest cheerleader!

Happy Birthday to my favorite son, Eli Lenell! Where has time gone? It was just yesterday, I was carrying you in my belly, now we’re standing shoulder to shoulder & you’re eating like you’re 6’7” (lol)! 😖 I’m so proud of you in every way! Your tender heart, perseverance, caring spirit, strong mind, & gentle soul inspire me daily. I’m so blessed & graced by God to have you as my boy! Although we’re snowed in, we’re gonna make the best of today til we can turn up outside! My Son, I love you more than words! Happy Birthday handsome!

Dear Daughter,

As I reflect on your journey so far, I am beyond grateful that God allowed this teen mom to give birth such an incredible young woman. I’m enamored at your brilliance, anchored heart & caring personality. Thank you for being the most beautiful life lesson. I cherish these moments with you that I didn’t get to have with your Mimi.

I could imagine how proud & involved she’d be if she were here to see “my princess”. But God split her legacy & gifts into me & Z & you can trust that her love & gift of cosmetology, making ppl feel better about themselves once they encounter us & the standard of excellence that she instilled is forever alive in us & in you too.

It’s senior year, as scholarships are pouring in from every direction, I’m trusting God like never before, to guide us in making the best decision for His purpose in your life.

Baby, I sacrificed my senior year so I could watch you live out yours! And IT WAS ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!

#grwm Serve Day 💥 it’s something powerful about showing up to serve those who serve others - Just like Jesus, who didn’t come to be served but to serve (Mark 10:45). Woke up at 4:30am, prayed, & arrived before everyone else came & left after everyone was gone after 4pm.

Honoring our leader, by doing what he taught us… SERVE before you SERVE!
