POSTS STORIES REELS

I’ve known Jasper a long time. He’s always up for anything, has a creative eye and great take on new things.

I’ve been wanting to post his UTMB imagery for ages but I thought it would be nice to ask him to share some words on his experience around the sport not as a runner, but as a spectator. Here is what he had to say :

“So I fell into the trail world by accident, from just turning up to support @bradleymartinez_ running silly distances because it was cheaper than therapy. That quickly became crewing him at every race, from start to finish, at all hours of the day, through all conditions. So I had knowledge of UTMB Chamonix and the need for ‘stones’ to be able to race there but that was pretty much it.

Through my work with HOKA and _J.L-A.L_ I got the opportunity to spend the week in Chamonix as we were launching an exclusive colour-way of our collaborative Mafate X. Having watched/crewed Ultras before I had some expectation of what this would be like but I was way off. This felt more like a Champions League final. Throughout the week there were events and moments that catered to everyone - the die-hard trail runners to the social spectators from all over the world.

The main event, the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, felt closer to a marathon race in terms of spectators and atmosphere than a 100 miler. From flares and fireworks in the torrential rain, as the athletes had to fight their way through a throng of spectators at Notre-dame de la Gorge before running through the night into a carnival of cutouts, chants and live music the next morning in Vallorcine.

So much positivity and encouragement for the athletes as they battle the physical and mental endurance that this race requires. Will definitely be back again, hopefully this year.”
