Welcome BACK to The First Cut Horror Film Festival 2026 AMIRA, directed by Javier Yañez Sanz from Spain! Synopsis - In the XVIII Century there’s a music school where it’s always dark... Director Biography - Javier Yañez Sanz @javyelow (1982 Madrid, Spain) is a film director with a wide experience in well known advertising campaigns and fiction short movies. He has also directed music videos and other personal pieces as inspirational works. He is the CEO and founder of Wewotion, a production Company with clients like Fanta, Coca Cola, Desperados or Ikea. In 2013 he did the VFX of the short film “That wasn’t me”, winner of the Spanish Film Awards “The Goyas”, for Best Short Fiction and nominated for “The Oscars” that same year. Throughout his carrer he has become an international awarded Director and Producer with his short films; “Bookworm” an on screen adaptation fo the manga of the same name from Amagappa Shoujogun that got more than 40 prices and over 150 selections, “Equals” an adaptation fo the manga from Shun Umezawa, “Mighty Boy” (The fist adaptation of a manga from the Japanese Naoki Urasawa, in Spain), “Amor Sacro” (Released in Sitges in 2011) and “A través del ocaso” (2009). “La Perrera” is the visual poem , written by the poet from Los Angeles, Xochitl-Julisa Bermejo. + We can’t wait for you to see this stunning film in full. Avui, a @el7eart_radiosarria, hem connectat per telèfon amb el director Javier Yáñez, per a nosaltres una de les grans figures del cinema fantàstic i de terror contemporani, responsable que més d’un hagi dormit amb el llum encès. Director, productor i muntador, ha construït una trajectòria molt personal dins del gènere, apostant per atmosferes intenses, inquietants i plenes de suggeriments. D’aquelles que no fan soroll, però que tampoc et deixen tranquil. Javier és conegut per curtmetratges com Mighty Boy, Equals o Bookworm, seleccionats en nombrosos festivals internacionals, i és també fundador de la productora Wewotion, des d’on impulsa projectes de fantasia, ciència-ficció i terror amb una mirada pròpia i inconfusible. Amb ell hem parlat dels seus futurs projectes i del seu últim treball, Amira, un curtmetratge ambientat en una escola de música del segle XIX on mai no entra la llum del dia i on el misteri ho embolcalla tot. El film ja ha passat per festivals tan prestigiosos com Sitges i continua acumulant reconeixements gràcies a aquest univers gòtic tan particular que el caracteritza. Durant la conversa, en Javier ens ha explicat els orígens d’Amira, els reptes que va afrontar durant la seva producció i les claus creatives d’aquest magnífic curtmetratge. A @el7eart_radiosarria vam descobrir Amira, dirigit per Javier Yañez (@javyelow) al festival @baidefest, i va ser un d’aquells curtmetratges que ens van captivar des del primer moment per la seva força visual i per la sensació estranya i hipnòtica que va creixent escena rere escena. Un curt que es va presentar al @sitgesfestival i que ara mateix només es pot veure en festivals, però esperem que ben aviat arribi a alguna plataforma. La història parteix d’una premissa aparentment simple, un grup de joves músics dins una acadèmia marcada per l’exigència i la recerca de la perfecció. El que sembla un relat sobre disciplina i esforç artístic es va transformant subtilment en una cosa molt més fosca, incòmoda i opressiva. Sense cap dubte, Amira és un curt amb una estètica elegant i delicada, una ambientació d’època molt cuidada i una fotografia refinada, però sota aquesta bellesa visual s’hi amaga una tensió latent que transforma cada escena en quelcom inquietant. Aquest contrast entre la delicadesa i el malestar constant que s’hi respira és un dels seus grans encerts, i es veu reforçat per moments que fins i tot s’acosten a un imaginari gòtic i de ciència-ficció. Les interpretacions són sòlides, especialment la de la protagonista, que aconsegueix transmetre alhora fragilitat i una força continguda molt suggeridora. En conjunt, Amira és una peça molt cuidada, visualment atractiva i amb identitat pròpia, però el que realment destaca és la seva capacitat de convertir una situació aparentment quotidiana en una experiència cada vegada més pertorbadora. #amira #el7eart #curtmetratge #javieryañez #El7eArtRadioSarrià by @javyelow

De todos los reconocimientos que ha recibido Amira, hay uno que me toca el corazón de una forma muy especial por lo que simboliza: el premio al Mejor Corto "Pere García Plensa" en la XXXVII Marató de Sants. @cccotxerescasinet 🏆 La foto que veis tiene truco: al fondo está el nuevo galardón (una pieza preciosa de metacrilato), pero a la derecha podéis ver el de la edición XXI por mi segundo corto, "A través del ocaso" (aquel mítico dragón de barro modelado a mano). Siento una mezcla de nostalgia, felicidad y un poco de vértigo... Han pasado 16 años y 5 cortometrajes entre una imagen y otra, pero el mismo público ha vuelto a confiar en nosotros. Gracias de corazón por seguir ahí. by @javyelow

Amira, a violin student, is competing to play for the Governor of the school for a chance to play in the city. but something makes noise at night and the students that play in the big stage are never seen again. Gorgeous in every use of the word. Truly special character writing. Actors spill their hearts into their roles. They say working with animals and children are some of the hardest times spent on set but this came across so naturally beautiful that I can only imagine every hand on deck came with their A game to pull off a glorious feet such as Amira. Interesting story. Ferocious gore. Set pieces to admire & so much more. Thumbs big thumbs up! ** THE EVIL EYE (@elmaldonat) 2024 20 mins Dir: Alfons Casal & Hector Mas (@alfonswayne / @hectormas) Syn:Andorra, 16th century. Catherina is a healer with a bad reputation amidst a witch hunt. Her sister Magdalena asks her for help to cure her son. A tragic turn of events leads Catherina to be tried for witchcraft. The moment I see Catherine in tears I know this one is going to be a deep and difficult film to get through. And sadly I wasn’t wrong. Heart wrenching story of humans fearing what they don’t understand so they do what they have since the dawn of man. Destroy it. This short film is gorgeous to look at and bestows me to plead for more. ** Reccurrence 2023 15 mins Dir: Ali Alizadeh Iran Syn: A father looks after his invalid son. Their cow disappears. The man sets out to find it. Strange things happen. A planet approaches Earth. FORBODING F O R B O D I N G. That spells this compelling story from IRAN.
