DISCLAIMER: this post is NOT meant to discourage anyone from making friends or forming genuine connections within the artist community, whether online or at artist alleys! friendships are a wonderful part of these spaces and there's nothing wrong with wanting to connect with artists you admire.

however i wanted to spread awareness about parasocial relationships and the importance of respecting personal boundaries, especially as someone who has personally experienced uncomfortable interactions both online and at conventions. being friendly or approachable doesn't automatically mean someone considers you a friend, and that level of closeness isn't always mutual.

friendship is built on mutual trust respect, NOT familiarity or entitlement. artists are people outside of their work and we deserve privacy and boundaries just like anyone else. you can appreciate and support someone's art without knowing them personally and that's perfectly okay! by @jawrelic
