Today marks the 1 year anniversary of my injury. I could talk about all I have lost but I think it’s more important to celebrate all that I have gained and overcome. Trying to put this past year into words is a challenge because it’s hard to put into words how grateful I am to have experienced all that I have and learned all that I’ve learned. I wouldn’t have been able to get through this year without the support of family, friends and the amazing people God has put in my life. Not only has God brought so many people in my life but through my brokenness, loneliness and uncertainty He gave me more purpose and life than I’ve ever felt before. When I was weak He was strong and He has shown me that through my body might be broken my spirit is stronger than ever.

So thank you all who have been there for me and supported me through this past year but most of all I thank God for being my light in the dark.

This is Jaxson.

Jaxson was involved in a car accident that resulted in a C7 spinal cord injury. Following complications, the injury extended higher, to C1/C2. Today, he lives with a high-level, spinal cord injury, and uses a ventilator.

A few days before our course, Douglas had the opportunity to spend some time with him.

The starting point was simply the question at the end of the day when everyone was going home, who is that and what is his story? It followed into a conversation and asking Jaxson some different questions about where his body was at, testing what his body was doing and see how it responded.

And slowly, things began to change.

Areas that initially felt locked, began to move differently. Jaxson began describing more sensation, warmth through his legs, and a feeling of his head being lighter.

But perhaps one of the most important observations came from his mom.

“Nobody’s asked your body questions for a long time.”

For someone who always felt deeply connected to his body through sport, Jaxson described how difficult it has been to lose that connection after his accident.

The session wasn’t about deciding how far he could go.

It was simply finding out where he was now - and what might be available from there.

This was only the introduction

A few days later, Jaxson joined us during the course, starting from a slightly different place.

🚨🚨 MILESTONE ALERT 🚨🚨 Check out Jaxson, (C1/2), back in October 2025 he had difficulty stabilizing his head and performing head-control exercises. Now fast-forward to just a few days ago: Jaxson was moving in a long-seated position while maintaining control and stability of his head!

This is a major milestone in his road to recovery and a powerful reminder that progress is built through patience, consistency, and belief. Keep stacking those wins, Jaxson brick by brick, layer by layer! 🧱💪🏼! NEVER GIVE UP!

Life wasn’t meant to be carried alone. We all have moments when the weight becomes too heavy and our strength begins to fade. That’s when genuine love steps in, not always to fix everything, but to stand beside us and remind us we’re not alone. Be the person who can say, “When life gets heavy, lean on me. We’ll get through it together.”

We should go through life with a confident faith, knowing that God will strengthen us during our toughest battles.
