I’ve struggled with what to say about this because there really aren’t words for watching your child lose a friend at 16 years old. 💔

Jaxson and Baxter met in 7th grade. Over the years they ran cross country together, played football at the park, spent countless hours playing video games and, once Jax got his license last November, ran amok all over town like teenage boys do.

Most recently, they wrapped up a 7v7 football season together and spent their summer training and preparing for this football season.

They had both just started their second week of their junior year.

Last night was their first scrimmage. Another is scheduled for next week. And on August 28th, their Varsity football season officially begins.

Jax and Baxter were both set to be starters.

This was their year.

But #33 wasn’t on that field last night.

As I watched the boys take the field, I felt this enormous gratitude that I still get to sit in those stands and watch my boy play, and an overwhelming sadness knowing that another mom doesn’t get to watch hers. 💔

Since we got the news Tuesday, Jaxson has been at Baxter’s house every single day. There is a memorial growing outside, and Baxter’s mom has welcomed these boys to come whenever they need to. She sits with them. She shares stories, pictures and videos of Baxter. She has told them that she hopes it helps them as much as having them there helps her.

More than anything, she wants her baby boy remembered.

Yesterday morning, his family met with the mortuary. Afterward, they gave us permission to share the support page we created for them. The financial reality that comes along with losing someone is staggering, and it is one burden we can help carry while this family faces the unimaginable.

If you are able, please consider making a donation to Baxter’s family. No amount is too small. And if you can’t donate, sharing the page helps too.

Please keep Baxter’s family, Jaxson and all of these boys who are learning far too young what it means to lose one of their own in your thoughts. 💙
