Pre-Marathon gathering, getting ready to run🏃🏽‍♂️

The starting line 😬

Dallas road around 10k

Had to take a time cut and run back 1.8km to Ana and pull her through some of the race. There was no way I was gonna let her quit. I actually ran 43.91 km instead of 42.2km. Probably could have hit a sub 4 or somewhere near it, my pace before going back was around 5:36. But that didn’t matter to me as much. I needed us both to finish that race, and I had fun. She let me giver though the last couple of k. It felt amazing! So proud of Ana for digging deep and crushing it! Good job babe ❤️ and Julia! We did it, wahooo! 👏🏽 🎉

Turning point

Cheers from Kathy & Moma Joan. Thanks for your support guys 😃

Finish line 🏁

RVM Medals, we killed it! 💯

I have been a little quieter on here lately and haven’t actually posted much in a couple of weeks minus a few short stories over the past few days. I have definitely been busy working hard behind the scenes though. For almost 7 weeks now, I have not missed a single day of training. My mornings start with a supplement routine, 45–60 mins of stretching and mobility, 100 pushups, leg raises, sit ups and planks, then a healthy breakfast. Later on in the day I either do a 7-12 km run or workout alternating between the two, with my long runs usually on Fridays or Saturdays, then I hit another 30–45 mins of stretching & mobility!

After 5+ years of training, one thing I have learned is that mobility, recovery and stretching matter just as much as the hard workouts/runs you put in. Educate yourself, listen to your body and remember what works for me may not work for you.

I have also been logging my food, tracking my training and sticking to a real schedule. That to me is incredibly important. Motivation comes and goes but if ya have a good routine, that is what will keep you moving and grooving whenever your motivation fades a bit! Outside of training, I have been dancing, helping people in the community, taking on side work and doing what I can to make life a little easier for other peeps. That genuinely brings me a lot of joy.

Next week I hit the road for just over a month of touring, travelling and doing meaningful work across many beautiful territories. I am extremely grateful for all the opportunities that come my way, all the support, everything happening and everything still to come. Taking care of my mind, body, heart and spirit is so important to me! Stay humble, work hard and move with purpose and love, always! Authenticity is easy to talk about but a lot harder to live. Real recognizes real! Let your actions, character and consistency speak for itself.

Aho! ✊🏽💯 by @jay.da_cree

Shallow Bay Sundance-30 mins away from Grand Rapids, MB (Misipawistik Cree Nation) my late Moms (Donna Ballantyne) Reserve. It always fills my spirit to go back, meet and connect with family, as well as doing Ceremony close to my Mothers resting place on the Ancestral Lands in which I am from. Year 3 completed! This year was a hard one! There were moments I honestly didn’t think I was gonna make it through from the intense heat we experienced this year, but I kept on praying hard, kept on dancing and I had my Sundancing Brothers supporting me through. Watching all my Sundance Sisters continue dancing with such strength and determination, definitely gave me the motivation to keep on going, as well as my Son. Around 3-4 am on the last day there was a powerful thunder and lightning storm with heavy rain, winds, and tornado warnings but we all supported each other and made it through. My spirit was alive, strong and present (Thunder Lightning Healing Rain) is my name and it felt deeply meaningful within that moment. The Sundance tested us in many ways and we all made some big sacrifices and showed a lot of resilience and heart. You all are so strong and powerful and I am so grateful for each and every single one of you guys. To my Ceremony Family, I love you all. Thank you Andrew & Patsy for the amazing work you do for us all. Congratulations to all the 4th year Sundancers that completed their commitment this year. I pray that the Creator blesses us all with a year filled with good health, strength and good medicine. I am looking forward to seeing you all again soon. Aye Hiy & Chi-Miigwetch! Aho! 🙏🏽 🤲🏽 *Thank you Lucy & Patsy for the one picture and video that was not taken by me but used for this post. taken in Misipawistik Cree Nation by @jay.da_cree

Exactly 5 years today with this beauty of a Queen! I am grateful for you and proud of us and how far we have come. Healthy relationships take some real work, that is fosho. We have both made mistakes but have been able to learn from them in order to grow stronger together as a team. Thank you for your support always and believing in us. You mean more to me than words can explain. I am looking forward to our future and many more years of growth, healing and building together. I love you lots ❤️ 💯 by @jay.da_cree

I had an amazing time at the Yaqan Nukiy Powwow and I am grateful to have been invited back for a second year, and to have shared the dance floor with two amazing Hoop Dancers that I truly respect. Kinanaskomitin (thank you) Jared, I appreciate you and all that you do for your community and for the people. It was an honour to dance to the powerful drum groups Eya-Hey Nakoda & Black Lodge singers. And to hear the Black Lodge singers popular song “Soldier Boy” live. Much love and respect to all of yall! 🧡 🤲🏽. The scenery along the way to our next destination was beautiful after the Powwow, and I wanted to extend my thanks to Tim and community for also inviting us back again for a second year. Our youth are important and sacred. The opportunities I get, I don’t ever take for granted and I always feel honoured to share my story and medicine with communities across Turtle Island. I hope to see all of you’s again next year. Ey Hiy & Miigwetch (thank you) 💚 🤲🏽… Now, continuing our journey to more communities throughout BC and Alberta. Aho! 💯 by @jay.da_cree

Today May 5th, is MMIWG2S+ Day. I walk in honour of my Mother, Donna Angela Genaille Ballantyne. In our Indigenous culture, and in our teachings, we are taught that our loved ones are never actually gone. In fact their Spirit lives on strong. I will never let the memory of my Mother fade. We are taught to make Spirit plates for our loved ones who have continued on the Spirit world, to feed their Spirit, and to offer them some of their favourite food. We also got her some flowers 💐 My Mom was actually the one who got me into Hoop Dancing at just 9 years old, and although she wasn’t a Hoop Dancer herself, she guided me towards learning about my culture and identity, and most importantly to always be proud of who I am. I’m so grateful for her. She gave me life and I will always honour her through my Hoop Dancing, memories, and important days like today. The food you see in the pictures are just some of the foods that she loved. If you knew my mother she loved Brad Pitt lol, so we are currently watching some of her favourite movies to honour her. For those of you that do not know, my mother was actually murdered. Her death is more complex than people may think, or claim to know. The man who killed her passed away 8+ years ago. I love you Mom, more than words can express! Kianâskomitin & Miigwetch 🤲🏽 🦅 ❤️ 💯 #mmiwg2s #reddressday #endviolenceagainstwomen #honourourwomen #takecareofourwomen by @jay.da_cree
